Let's talk about greatest individual seasons of TV

i'm re-watching Rome, season 1 and holy shite this season is amazeballs. writing, acting, characters, conflict, visuals, etc
Justified season 2 is another favorite of mine, as well as Wire season 2 (i know that's not a popular choice on this board)
can't forget Homeland season 1, either
i'm trying to think of an individual season of a comedy, but nothing is coming to mind right now. i'm sure there is something i'm missing

Sopranos Season 4, 6, 1 (3 gets honorable mention because of Pine Barrens - my nominee for best non-Pilot/non-Finale episode of all time).
So - that's my broad universe to work with.
Best pilot? The Shield
Best finale? Breaking Bad (The Wire close)
Best "middle of run" episode? Pine Barrens (Sopranos)
Best pilot/finale combo? The Shield
Best individual season? Tie - Breaking Bad 5 and The Wire 4.
And I'll be damned if that isn't some fine television.
