Let's rank the first 5 seasons of American Horror Story

Yeah it's been discussed before, I know. I haven't seen any of season 6 so I'm not including it.

***WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

1. Murder House. Season 1 had awesome characters, good pacing, an interesting plot (that they actually followed through on until the end), and plenty of WTF moments. Tate is still the most interesting character in the whole series IMO

2.Coven. This isn't going to be a popular opinion on here but I actually loved this season. I really liked the setting and historical aspects of it and Kathy Bate's character was terrific. The plot didn't stay as on point as murder house but they managed to not end up in left field by the end like some of the other seasons did.

3.Asylum. There's a pretty big drop-off between coven and asylum for me. It was scary and fun for the first half of the season or so but after that it just became...depressing. I got so tired of every episode being in that damn grayscale building with no change of scenery. I know that was sort of the point, to make you feel claustrophobic and like you were going crazy like the residents, but it got tiresome. Overall though, pretty solid season.

4. Hotel. This season was just kind of meh. It had plenty of style and I liked the setting but there were just way too many plotlines. I never got invested in any of the characters because there was so much other shite going on all the time. Gaga wasn't terrible but she didn't really bring anything to the table either. I honestly can't even remember most of what happened in Hotel.

5. Freak Show. Dear god did I hate this season. When I first heard they were doing a circus theme I was ecstatic. There was so much potential to create a truly unsettling and bizarre environment that circuses are already known for having, but instead it just felt like they were out in a field somewhere with some tents. Most of the scenes were filmed in the daytime, none of the characters were especially dark or layered. Well except for the best character, Twisty, who they fricking killed off before the 5th episode. Then that annoying POS Dandy becomes the main villain and instead of going the route of having him take on the role of the new Twisty, he continues to be his same loud-mouthed, autistic, non-scary self for the whole rest of the show. They completely abandoned any attempts to make the show scary by the halfway point. It seemed like their main goal was to teach us a lesson about how freaks are actually just misunderstood, blah blah blah. This is American horror story, not the foundation for a better life. frick season 4. Ugh. The halloween episode was ok.
