Is this one of the more 'Murican movies ever made?

You can't beat that Charlton Heston narration during the opening.

That is how I feel about it. It is ridiculous but I find myself enjoying it whenever I watch it.

it's one of the most Zen movies ever

it is what it is, and it does its job almost perfectly

it's a roller coaster disaster film with a great balance of seriousness, comedy, and action. this is pure popcorn movie

perfect description. It wasn't as serious as the mostly forgotten Deep Impact. It was a disaster flick, where the disaster was avoided thanks to "Merica". Pretty awesome movie that is worth a watch when it comes on. Plus the scene where Bruce decided to stay gets me every time. Not you John McClain, Ben Affleck was a such a douche in that movie he needed to go. Plus that song played non stop on the radio that summer.

I saw in high school at the theater on a first date. I've seen it at least 20 times since. I freaking love that movie. Bruce Willis and Liv Tyler talking at the end gets me every time. And I love the end scene with the head astronaut going up to Liv Tyler and saying, "Permission to shake the hand of the daughter of the bravest man I've ever met."

Everything about Armageddon is just fricking absurd. The premise, the music, the light flares, the science, the acting, etc

But for some reason, it sucks me in every time.

It's simply fantastic. I cry at 3 or 4 spots.

A friend that was a physics major said one of his upper level classes where they discussed orbital mechanics used this movie as the entire basis of the lesson. That is, they calculated how everything from the premise of the asteroid and nuke to spinning Mir to create gravity is all complete bullshite.

Still love the movie.

Not to mention not finding an asteroid the size of Texas until it is 18 days out and being able to train and plan a shuttle mission in even less time.

I love how even Ben Afleck knew about the movies gaping premise problem. When he asked Bay why is it easier to train oil drillers to be astronauts than astronauts to be oil drillers, Bay said to STFU.
