A mixture of a Vietnam War movie, Moby Dick and Jurassic Park..
Nice little popcorn flick.
Any else catch it these last 2 weeks?

I think you summed it up pretty well. Nothing too special. Enjoyed it though.

Only person who hasn't liked it is my dad.

I thought it was fine, except for the two-legged lizards. I was worried about John C. Reilly's character from the previews, but it wasn't as over the top in context.
Considering the shared universe they are establishing, I understand what's going on with making Kong so tall, and I thought they made him just sympathetic enough for this.
The 70s vibe was a bit too cheesy, especially the SWJ photographer, but that was almost a nod to Jack's character in Kong '76 to me.
Not sure how they are going to explain hiding Kong's existence through the 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s to meet up with the other "friends" he will encounter, but will see with popcorn.

I liked it, but I'm not a fan of SLJ so I wouldn't say it's one of the best movies I've seen recently.

Yeah...I take back the negative.
It was good.
Actually better than the Jurassic sequels and Godzilla...all of them.
Brie Larson though...loved her in Room but...this isn't her movie. It always happens though...a starlet gets recognized in an avant-garde film and then is cast in the next blockbuster.
Winter's Bone - Hunger Games - Jennifer Lawrence
Mulholland Drive - The Ring - boom blockbuster - King Kong - Naomi Watts
Room - Skull Island - Larson
I don't get it though...I like her as an actress like Room but this wasn't an acting chops movie...this was popcorn bullshite. She didn't look good in the movie at all. Don't you want to just hire some hot eye candy when 80% of the movie is CGI nonsense? If you go popcorn, go popcorn porn. Get some better looking babes in there...skimp down the outfits.
I mean Brie Larson in total talks for about 5 minutes in the entire movie. Why can't we get a model for that?

1. Lawrence was ok
2. Watts was pretty good in King Kong
3. I agree with you on Larson - wasn't feeling it. Actually all the characters were not flushed out much at all. The action was the star.

I feel like there was a ton cut out on Hiddleston's character.

I really didn't have a problem with the lack of character development. Usually in a monster movie we bitch about them shoving human characters down our throats and not enough monster. They finally put Kong front and center. I loved the after credits scene also. The movie overall was fun, nothing game changing, just fun. I'm completely ok with that.

And they mentioned that he's still growing. I assume that he will eventually grow to be as large as Godzilla.

If he gets as big as Godzilla then I'd think he could whip Godzilla's arse pretty good. Godzilla never seems to really know how to use his for breath.

One of the funnest movies I've gone too. I had no clue about the after credits scene either until my friend told me there was one and I geeked out pretty bad lol.

Is this the sequel to the Peter Jackson one?
Posted on 3/21/17 at 7:10 pm to Duzz
I don't think it's a sequel. Didn't seem like it was based on that one.

I left the theatre thinking the movie was really dumb and lacking seriousness (at least as much seriousness as a monster movie deserves), but I couldn't put my finger on exactly why I felt that way and thinking back on the movie, it wasn't bad.

It was dumb...but wasn't bad at all. You can tell a bad movie and this was fun.
As others have said: why you felt that way...
1) Kong was too big (I miss Jessica Lange Kong...and well, Jessica Lang in that movie...wow...Brie Larson didn't cut mustard.)
2) The action was too fast. Too disjointed. I probably missed half the kills.
3) John C. Reilly was the best thing in the movie and yet could have been so much better.
4) No characters were flushed out at all. At all.
(We still like characters even in popcorn flicks.)
It's a paper Tiger movie. I doubt it will have much rewatch value.
But it is sort of fun.

Kongs size was actually one thing I liked

It was a pretty disappointing movie for me. The dialogue was very by the numbers and dull. Brie Larson did nothing but hold a camera and make exaggerated facial reactions of fear or happiness. Kind of a bitch too. Should have kept dinosaurs instead of the skull crawlers. I cringed at Reilly in the previews as I thought he seemed out of place. I ended up finding him to be one of the few enjoyable things about the film.
Hiddleston was miscast for the role. Reminded me of Adrian Brody in Predators. If he becomes the next Bond he better add 30 pounds of muscle. BTW, who will be the bad guy in the next movie? Kong or Zilla?

I've always thought the idea with kong and zilla was they're so big they seriously could give 2 shits about us so there really isn't a good or bad guy. Like we are less than ants to them. They don't care if we live or die. We're not in their food chain and they inky kill us when we annoy them like a gnat

It better not be a draw like Freddy vs Jason and Bateman v. Superman.
