As for the holograms, they were better explained in the book and each hologram resembled a fallen tribute. It's my understanding that the arena is basically one big hologram or better yet, like The Grid in Tron. That's how the game makers control everything.

Wait, what was a hologram? Not the beast things at the end? I thought those were explained to be genetically modified animals just like the damn wasps and faggy mockingjays.

What an abysmally stupid movie, and I'm guessing it's because the source material is stupid.

I read all 3 books just to tell people they were fricking idiots when they claimed the books were great. The writing, storyline, character development, and pretty much everything else that makes a good story were fricking terrible. For fantasy, it is terrible. For sci-fi it was fricking terrible. As a children's book, it is abyssmal with absolutely zero good messages for young adults. Also, it was a complete rip-off of "the running man," "the most dangerous game," and "the lottery."

Battle Royale

Jesus, the worst thing about the Hunger Games is people trying to prop up this piece of shite. Battle Royale is Hunger Games without any of the subtext. It's a pretty terrible movie without one believable character and its simply an excuse for action sequences, which aren't all that terribly well done anyway. Battle Royale has become the worst kind of "cool kids" movie, used as a stick to bludgeon a popular film despite the fact A) you probably didn't see until after the hunger Games and B) it's not very good. At all.

Hunger Games is at least about how governments control people through popular entertainments. OK, the "it's killing the children" metaphor is a bit on the nose, but at least there is a metaphor. Also, it does a good job of spelling out resentments between the oppressed classes preventing unity (the remote districts hate the "privileged" districts far more than the Capitol. Which makes sense, as its another form of control.

And pretty much the best way to have blowback on this board is to have a strong, feminist heroine. I'm shocked that's not popular among this constituency.

I felt about the movie like I did the book.

very meh. I like the idea behind it I really do but I think it could have been soo much better than what it was.

I never read the books, but the 1st movie kinda turned me off on giving it a chance.

I saw battle royale not long after it came out and sorry but punishing bad kids makes far more sense than the nonsense reasoning behind hunger games.

I also don't claim battle royale to be a great movie, just makes more sense than games which doesn't say much.

Yeah I got into a pretty long-winded argument with my buddy about the complete steaming pile Battle Royale is. I wish I had that time back. It was, in all honesty, one of the worst movies I've seen in the past five years.

This was a fine movie. It wasn't incredible, but I enjoyed it, especially the second half. I'm wanting young girls to read this over that crap Twilight. At least there's a plot structure and has some nice concrete themes. Its not as simple as how important it is to have an attractive hunk of man meat in your life, which is the only theme of Twilight.

The books are better, but they're far from great fiction.

I mean that's his schtick and all, but I don't get why Rex is picking on the Hunger Games like he expected to see Dr. Zhivago. It's a very competently made journey film. Yeah, had it's cliches and weak story moments, but I liked it enough when I saw it, thought it was entertaining. Would've been better had they pushed it a little farther. Fun, but forgettable.
