The only thing in the first 45 min that was memorable, was the bling guy getting blindfolded

And we also got the standard playbook for a Star Wars flick. Child is a loner on some God forsaken planet. Child's mother is killed. Child teams up with a shoot first scoundrel. Child risks own life to rescue bad father from his terrible actions. Dad dies. Death star is tested.

What the hell happened to the all the Bothans dying to get those secret plans? Did I somehow miss the Bothans?

At some point, you just start ticking off the death count, because you know none of these original characters made it to Star Wars

They invented that awesome hammerhead space tug, only to act like it wasn't effective enough to be used by the Alliance in any other movie?? WTF?

And the heroine goes from this sullen, solitary figure to somehow developing the oratory skills to rally the troops? That's a Bluto (from Animal House) level stretch

The facial CGI

oh, and, Darth Vader was a bad arse. But way too little of him

You mean the Joseph Campbell playbook?

BTW, Bothans stole the plans for the Death Star v2.

Stopped reading here. You didn't even pay attention to the movie if you thought the father was a bad guy. He made the ultimate self sacrifice. Doing something he knew was wrong in order to create an opening for the rebellion. They would have built the death star without him, and then the rebels wouldn't have gotten the plans.

I just can't get over the fact they practically wasted two great actors in Mads Mikkelson and Ben Mendelsohn.

Terrible use of the talent on hand.

So basically no Star Wars movie has ever featured Bothans?

That was later. That was also a quick decision. The dad in Rogue One had to keep up his charade for decades. Living in constant fear and shame for decades. That is a greater sacrifice imo. He knew he wasn't going to leave alive. And the entire time he survived I'm sure he was completely miserable.

This father was probably responsible for FAR MORE deaths than Vader, including his own daughter. Bad hombre
