Wow, I need a Prozac after watching. Heavy movie to say the least.

Thought it was great. Its not for everyone and it does move really slow, but great character development and acting.

Reminded me a little bit of Boyhood. Just a coming of age real life movie that doesn't always have a great ending.

Casey Affleck is tremendous. That scene with him and Michelle Williams when he sees her on the street. Damn!

What was the boards thoughts?

I don't understand this, maybe I was expecting too much because of folks on here pumping it up so much

What did you find so incredible about it?

Needed a better ending. I enjoyed it for a while, but started wondering where it was going...then it just ended. I won't say it was a bad movie, but I really didn't feel that entertained when it was over.

I'll give the same review for Arrival as well.

I really liked it, but liked arrival and La La Land more. Lion too

That was the money shot for the movie, if that scene didn't give you the feels you might be broken inside.

That being said, I'm generally a hater for this movie, I thought it was too long and drawn out, and I think Michelle Williams performance > Casey Affleck's performance. He wasn't bad, I just can't believe how much praise he's getting for playing numb and there hasn't been much fanfare for Williams who brought way more emotion even though it was in a supporting role.

Just watched it as well. I thought there were some really good parts - flashbacks with his brother, Patrick's panic attack - but it was also a different ending. I guess the story is more about living with grief and not necessarily overcoming it.

Did anyone else find the music as distractingly awkward as I did?

That was the best acting in any scene this year.

It was good but very slow, Casey affleck had some pretty good scene. I've seen 2 Oscar movies this year and I'd rank them:

Hacksaw Ridge
Arrival
Manchester by the Sea

All have been good.

Arrival and Lion (best in my opinion) were better for sure

Moonlight, no thank you

None of the nominated films knocked me for a loop and made me think "must be best picture".

Hell or High Water and Moonlight were the best surprises, just because of their status as very small films.

Spoilers

It was merely a decent movie until the scene with his ex. I thought she was gonna chew him out some more, or offer some half-assed condolences. When she broke down telling him she understands it's harder for him, and that she still loves him and was sorry for the horrible stuff she said, was heartbreaking. And his reaction to just run away before he started crying was unexpected as well. I figured they'd have some sort of mutual reconciliation. Then at the end when he tells his nephew "I can't beat it."....Niagara Falls man.

I thought it was alright, nothing great.

And I thought Casey Affleck's performance was nothing special. I can't think of a weaker best actor Oscar performance.

Not bad, okay movie and performance but nothing great.

I'm a Leo fan, and his win last year was definitely weaker than Afflecks. But I also thought Affleck was tremendous so I don't think he was a weak winner at all

i just watched revenant for the last week and that was probably his weakest performance to get nominated. that being said he was well deserving several other times so we'll call it the return of the king effect.

I thought the nephew's performance was excellent as well. I really like the movie, but I agree that it ended rather abruptly.
