Just started TWD and have a few questions *possible SPOILERS*

But please no spoilers that give away any important info that needs to be saved until later.
1. Were Lori and Shane having an affair before the event happened? I know Rick and Lori were having problems. It would help explain why they were already hooking up after what could have been no longer than a week or so after Rick "died". Otherwise, I'm having to put her up there with Skyler White as wife of the year material.
2. Does it ever go into detail about how the event occurred? Or is it left to our own imaginations? I mean, did it happen overnight? Was there some biological warfare? Was it only in the US?
3. How does one turn into a zombie? Does getting bit or scratched by a zombie turn you into one?

1. I don't think they were. Never really specifies if I'm remembering correctly
2. Uhh end of the first season answers some questions, but for the most part No.
3. End of the first season explains that. Biting is a sure fire way but scratching does not. I could tell you exactly how, but it would spoil it.

It doesnt show any affair prior to Rick waking up, i am assuming there was not. She only started sleeping with him becasue Rick was presumed dead.

Yes

1. I doubt it. My interpretation was it happened because they thought Rick was dead. I never saw any hints otherwise.
2. Fear the Walking Dead (spin-off show) is set right before the outbreak happens. The scale of the outbreak is addressed near the end of season 1.
3. Just the bites cause the infection. Don't want to go too far on this though, because there are some reveals about how they turn later.

answering the third question could be a spoiler. It's something that makes this universe different from other Zombie universes.

Why is it never brought up again? I remember the governor and his guy were doing some experiments, but it's like the season one finale never happened.
