It seems like there were several threads in the show that never were wrapped up (Walt's powers, some of the Dharma stuff, etc.) Looking back on all the seasons I feel like at times some things were just happening that didn't really have an important bearing on how the show ended.
You have seen through the sludge. Congrats.
You missed one key piece of Lost: The collective experience.
That's really what made Lost, and probably allowed many folks the ability to look past this giant flaw, and the simple will of the writers to do whatever they wanted for no reason at all.
I don't blame those who do, it's easy to get caught up in the fun of speculating, THAT had meaning for them.
It's not about needing or wanting answers, either, it's about satisfying storytelling. Lost can't stand without its experience. That makes it great, but also makes it impossible to recreate.
