What an awesome show. One of the best on TV.

Does it keep up the momentum in the later seasons?

Stop now. Yes the future seasons have some good even great episodes but as far as the overall storyline here is where you should stop.

Stop now. This is the end of the natural story. Everything else is fluff

I have to agree. There are some decent storylines later, but if I could go back, I'd have stopped after season five. It's such a perfect ending to a great show.

Everything after season 5 gets shite on a lot, and I agree there were some meh moments, but I've still enjoyed all of it. I'm halfway through season 11 on netflix and it's been great.

OP, if you start season 6, stick with it at the beginning. Something is going to seem really off but there's an explanation coming.

Season 5 is incredible. One of the best seasons of any show all time.

Relatively speaking the show takes a dive but is still good (better than many others) due to the chemistry of the cast alone (kinda like psych in that sense)

I agree, especially with the season 5 finale.

The later seasons are still worth watching due to the greatness of Charlie (and you get to look at Abaddon)

One of the greatest series* finales ever. That season as a whole was brilliant.

Seasons 6 and 7 are easily the worst and 8 isn't much better but 9-11 put the show back on track and have been stellar in my opinion.

Same here. Still like the show. The overall appeal is still there.

I still enjoy it, but it's never been as good as season 5.

But it's not like dexter where the show becomes complete shite after the best season.

I have only watched up to season nine (multiple times), but Keep going if you like the show. The overall story is not as great, but it's still Sam and Dean.

One of my favorite shows of all time.

Didn't make it through season 1. It was pretty boring.

I'll revise my comment. If you like the show keep going but just treat it as a new show or a sequel to a great movie. The sequel isn't going to be as good as the original but you'll still get some joy out of watching it.

The poster that says the chemistry of the cast keeps it going is right.

Yeah, that's just M/TV Board Snob talk like don't watch Dexter after season 4. You can't eat every meal at a fancy steak house. It's ok to enjoy a greasy burger too. While Season 5 would probably be where it ended if TV wasn't a business, I have enjoyed continuing to watch Sam and Dean. Although I have to think it's ending soon, they're literally running out of ways to escalate the plot.

Season 1 was much more Monster of the Week than the rest of the series. The main story arc through season 5 is really good once you get past the MoW parts of season 1.
