I'm currently rereading the book for the umpteenth time and just got past the scene where Grant sees the dinosaurs for the first time.

While 95% of the film adaptations of Crichtons books have fallen far short of their material, Speilberg nailed it in every way possible.

Welcome To Jurassic Park

This scene is perfect. Perfect in every way. From Neil and Goldblums raw excitement and emotion, to the building strings giving way to Williams' Theme to Jurassic Park, it's perfect. Still gives me goosebumps. It's the reason you go to the movies.

The fact that movie was made in 1993 still blows my mind.

GOAT special effects in a film.

One of the odder casting groups of all-time.

Sam Neil, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Richard Attenborough.

Music is fantastic for the film as well.

But it was perfect casting. Hammond was described as having an almost childlike enthusiasm in the book and he was played perfectly by Attenborough. Malcolm was a "rockstar mathematician", and you can't get much better eccentric cool than Goldblum except for maybe Chris Walken and he was really too old for the part. Sam Neil was a perfect choice for Alan Grant as a "not Indiana Jones"-y type. Even casting Newman as Nedry completely nailed it.

Notice the Apatasaurus gets up on its hind legs and reaches only as high as it was eating on all fours.

I have seen this movie too many times.

Jeff Goldblum has so many awesome lines in that movie.

quote:

John, the kind of control you're attempting simply is…it's not possible. If there is one thing the history of evolution has taught us it's that life will not be contained. Life breaks free, it expands to new territories and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, uh…well, there it is.

quote:

I'm simply saying that life, uh…finds a way.

The special effects are a 10000000x better than the cgi fest of the star wars prequels which came years later

They still look real as hell

I was first chair Trumpet in 8th grade and played this too. It doesn't sound quite as wonderous without strings.

I much prefer effects like that to all the CGI crap of the last 15 years or so. A little to enhance things is fine, but when the movie just looks fake (SW prequels) it's detrimental.

Jurassic Park is still a masterpiece years later because it genuinely looks real and stays true to the book which is fantastic

So remember seeing this in the theater and thinking, my god they can do anything in movies now. A truly special movie that those born later can never really groundbreaking it was.
