Jimmy Fallon, Late Night's Least Woke Comedian

quote:

Last week, Jimmy Kimmel delivered a poignant monologue about his newborn son’s heart condition, which turned into a plea for House Republicans to refrain from eviscerating the Affordable Care Act. After they did just that, Seth Meyers used a segment of his late-night show to savage House Speaker Paul Ryan, almost entirely by using his own words against him, in the best Daily Show/ Jon Stewart fashion. And there was Stephen Colbert, firing off an anti-Trump diatribe that amounted to the comedic version of a drone strike. Jimmy Fallon, meanwhile, had the following exchange with Goldie Hawn, who was promoting her new comedy Snatched:

Fallon: “You and Amy Schumer. I mean, come on. This is a perfect combo.”
Hawn: “It was so perfect.”
Fallon: “It’s a perfect combo.”

It's only going to get worse for Fallon. The late night guys are going to chase the ratings by becoming more political and Fallon is going to have to resort to impressions of Donald Trump singing Neil Young.

NPR was discussing the recent late night activism and signed off with, "Move over Jimmy Fallon."

Any article that has "woke" in the title is automatically disqualified.

The fact that w
"Woke" was used in the article discredits the entire thing.

I want to like Fallon, but 99% of the time his skits are music related and that shite is so tiring and played out. IMO.

I never thought the words "I miss Jay Leno" would come out of my mouth, but damn these clowns make me miss Leno.

Remember when Letterman was "too political"?

The "woke" part was the least offensive part. Calling Fallon a "comedian" flies in the face of actual funny people. That's the part people should be upset about.

Fallon sucks. He's as funny as testicular cancer, and it's pretty obvious he has a big time drinking and/or drug problem. Colbert is so far ahead of him, it ain't even funny.

Jimmy is Jimmy. I don't think he has any interest in politics. The few things he does that are political are obviously forced on him by the network. I don't get why people insist on comparing him to Colbert, Kimmel, and Meyers. He's not trying to have the deepest talk show out there.

Fallon is a terrible late night host, and I'm big detractor around here when he comes up....

However, I've noticed this. He's stayed fairly out of the political game. And when a lot of Hollywood are becoming increasingly (and annoyingly) political. It's a bit refreshing. So I'll give Jimmy that.

He still doesn't really make me laugh, so there's no reason to watch his show, but cheers to Jimmy for just being an entertainer first and foremost. I can get behind that.

What a world we live in! Jimmy Kimmel, who was best know for having smoking hot girls wearing little to nothing jump on trampolines, is now the toast of liberals.

Jimmy Fallow (along with sidekick Tina), who was one of the golden boys of liberals, is now being bashed because he doesn't want bash Trump.

Wow!!!

Jimmy is doing what Leno did and avoiding giving his opinions on social matters. Even with colbert getting the ratings lead he's still right behind him and winning the major demographics.

If only Fallon could get through an interview without giggling like a teenage fangirl maybe his show would be watchable.

Here's the deal... one day Colbert's political attacking will become old, one day he will have nothing left in this area to attack, whether by Trump being a good president, or having a new one, and his ratings will plummet. Fallon will still be there, trucking along. I honestly don't see Colbert lasting long term.

I'm pretty sure Kimmel would and does get VIP treatment at maybe the best hospital in America at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles...and can afford the price-tag.

And that he doesn't realize that the middle-class is being squeezed with this supposed affordable care.

I think people are trying to make Fallon's comments more political than they were. He told a moving story about the difficulties he was really going through as a human being, and then in the middle of about a ten-minute story said that we should prioritize little kids having health care. Hell, he didn't even mention the ACA or ACHA. He was just like, this is something we all agree is important. And it is, as a value, we all should agree that having a sick kid shouldn't automatically bankrupt a family (hell, he didn't even refer to himself, he was literally talking about OTHER people still at the hospital). That's not policy, that's just what we value as a culture.

He proposed donating the hospital, put up their website, thanked them, cried, composed himself, and then did the rest o the show. Trying to turn that into this big political statement is pretty gross. Unless you actually are in favor of sick kids, which is somehow worse.

But the profound lack of empathy we have for a fellow human beings is sort of awful. What I like about Fallon is that he is like a puppy, he wants everyone to be happy and have a good time. Considering he's in the entertainment industry and hosts a show designed to promote other entertainment properties, it's a decent skill to have. Sure, he'll never be cutting edge. So what?
