Jay Mohr's Career
Posted by Jack Ruby on 8/11/16 at 11:57 pm23
Saw him hosting Dan Patrick's Show today as a fill in host. I know he had a podcast a few years ago but man has this guy's career has been strange.
The same guy who was on SNL during the Farley era and was supposed to be the next star after Jerry Maguire. He was co starring with Jennifer Aniston in her prime...now he's a sports talk show host.

He has a reputation for being an a-hole behind the scenes. I never found him that funny to begin with.

Nothing more than a hack IMO. How he got remotely famous is still puzzling to me.
Comes across as a dick on-screen and in past interviews I've seen. He's a different version of Joe Rogan.

His talk show has grown on me over time. I think he was a guy who tried a lot of schticks and characters before settling into a natural flow.
I think he transitioned into sports radio after being a regular caller into Jim Rome's show back in the 90s or early 2000s.
His last stand up special was pretty funny, to me.

He was like the 7th biggest character in that movie and it wasn't a "stole the movie" kinda role like Cuba's was.

Picture Perfect came in 5th at the box office it's opening weekend.
Jay Mohr is definitely not a leading man in a movie. He's the funny friend of a leading man in a movie or maybe the leading man of a run of the mill sitcom.
Also he's always talking on the show about how he's an addict(I think drinking) so that might've had something to do with his career path.

I'm not an avid fan of his work so I may be unfair, but I've seen him in more than one semi-collaborative situation where he likes to go off the reservation and insult another person on stage. That's fine for a comedy club but I don't think it gets you the next level jobs you want in movies or television.
He's also simply not exceptional from what I've seen of him. If he were amazing, but hard to work with, people would put up with it. If you are adequate or good and hard to work with I think you shut down your own opportunities.

Action was a very underrated and completely forgotten show.

It was pretty decent. But I really liked his show "Gary Unmarried". For some reason, I never caught it when it was on tv. But I got the first season at the library a couple of years ago, loved it, then watched the second. It's a great show, that is funny and has really hot women. I don't know why it didn't catch on..

If Action had been on HBO or out today it would be great.

Yeah, take Joe Rogan, subtract the charisma and appreciation of other people, add in some condescension and a lot of "I think I'm the cool guy in the room" vibe, and you have Jay Mohr.

His daily show is on the AM station here in Birmingham opposite Finebaum. I bet im the only person here who listens. I would love to see his ratings in Bham.
Loved him and his role in "King's Ransom". He plays a very good dumb-bad-guy. Charlie Murphy played an exceptional role in that movie also.

His talk show is pretty entertaining, but man the producer just sits on that "T-TIMMAY" soundbite.

He was ok in Jane Austen's Mafia. Its from the same team that did Naked Gun and Airplane.
