For some reason, they seem to be on cable all the time lately, especially on the weekend. Now I love me some Bond, James Bond, but I have to say, most of the old ones are riddled with shitty dubbing, and horrific "special' effects to the point that I often find myself laughing out loud. Regardless, I still enjoy watching them.

Given how these films are not really pumped out anymore and how fast technology changes,

it makes some Bond films look horribly dated.

I think the early Bonds were great. After Thunderball, things started going downhill and they started to get campy and cliché.

Nothing beats the opening gunbarrel sequence as a way to get you hooked.

This. I can't recall ever flipping through channels, seeing a Bond movie, and keep flipping.

There's also been a preponderance of Bond threads too!

They're all over my TV too. I was wondering if some kind of contract the rights holders had with an entity had run out or something.

I agree with Fairhope on the " they started to get campy and cliché", but I still enjoy them.

Dr. No is a classic. I love that movie.

I think Jamaica was still under British rule when Dr. No was made. Your random FYI of the day. Makes the film seem even older.

The older ones are better movies with much better scripts and, frankly, acting. But one reason is that they picked the best Fleming books from which to do movies for the most part. The other is that Craig and Connery were the best Bonds (Lansby was OK too). I've read all the books and the 2 best that weren't turned into Connery films were Moonraker (so so movie) and On Her Majesty's Secret Service (good movie). The only book that the movie improved upon was Casino Royale (excellent) and The Man with the Golden Gun(mediocre movie; bad book).
The first and 3rd Craig movies, however, are comparable to the Connery movies. The 2nd, Quantam of Solace, was a bad movie, imo; the book is an excellent short story, but that has nothing to do with Bond doing secret service work. They just used the title.

I think Fleming was dying when Golden Gun was written but i could be wrong. The concept was pretty good but the plot was weak.
