Saw it last night. I thought it was excellent. I'm a big fan of horror, but realize most horror lately has been bullshite, and not scary. This one gave me a strong feeling of dread the entire time

Have you seen Cabin in the Woods? If so, can you compare the two (non-spoiler comparison)?
I ask because I've seen CitW mentioned at times when people talk about this one, and am curious if they're anything alike.

It Follows debuted at the film festivals in 2014 but is just now getting a wide theatrical release thanks to all the buzz the film has generated.

It was very good. Really creepy throughout. Great 80's horror synth score. Reminded me of some of the great 80s horror films. A must watch if you're a fan of the genre.

Yeah, I've seen Cabin In The Woods twice. I really enjoyed that as well. I had no idea what it was going into it, so I think that helped immensely.
As far as comparing that to 'It Follows', I couldn't say for sure (it's been a while since I last saw CitW), but I could see it. They both had very original concepts, but drew deeply from previous horror films. Both films set the "rules" up fairly early (It Follows sets them much earlier than Cabin In The Woods), but they both did a great job of avoiding the common third-act failures of most horror movies.

Just prob that their both good, original horror films, but other than that not alot.
Really liked It Follows, alittle rough around the edges but that kinda works in its favor.

I finally got around to seeing this movie.
First off, I would just like to say that I thought the film was shot beautifully. The rotating shots were just amazing. The atmosphere was also very well done. It kind of had a retro feel to it. Most of the props and sets in the movie look straight out of the 80s, although the movie is set in the modern day. They use old TVs, older cars most of the time, older houses, it was absolutely beautiful. There is even a character who has a Kindle that is in the shape of a small make up case. I don't know if this is an actual product that they make, but it was a nice touch. The movie was well acted from the main character and the ensemble acting was about what you would expect from a horror movie.
As far as the scariness level of the film, I didn't find it scary at all. That doesn't mean that I didn't think it was a really good movie. It's worth a watch, but try to focus on the subplots instead of it just being a "scary" movie. If you don't, you may be disappointed.
8/10 for me.
Spoilers*******
So I kind of understand what the movie is attempting to portray. Essentially it's trying to display the fear of dying at any second and how that fear far exceeds the actual pain of death. I also feel like the movie is trying to show in a nut shell what the dangers and fear of sex can be. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I got out of it.
I really enjoyed the subplot going on between Paul and Jay. Paul has always been in love with Jay and gets very heartbroken that she chose to pass "It" to Greg instead of him. Greg doesn't really believe that Jay is actually seeing things, so it's not a big risk to him. I think he just enjoys the sex. Paul however was so in love with Jay that he is willing to risk violent death to be with her, in any way possible.
So when Jay actually does decide to sleep with Paul, we know why Paul does it, but why does Jay do it? I think it's because she doesn't want to be alone in this ordeal. She wants someone there that she trusts to be there with her. She loves him, but not in the way Paul loves her. I loved this aspect of the movie. It made it a very unique and new experience.
ETA: I just read somewhere that the movie was kind attempting to recreate the fear of HIV in the 80s. That would make a lot of sense. Also, I neglected to mention the absolutely fantastic score in the movie. Masterfully well done.

Nailed it.
I loved the theme of the movie and the synthesizer score matched it beautifully. Not a scary movie at all, but the visuals/props/clothing, etc were perfect.
