Great film. Foster is outshined by Hopkins but she is very good also.

The night vision scene is still one of the most tense and creepy scenes I've seen.

What kind of great?

An overall amazing, historically important and influential film? No, not at all.

A great mix of writing, acting, editing, etc.? Eh, probably so, but maybe not. It's certainly a character piece and it is great at that. Not sure the rest is really up to snuff. But it's debatable.

It has a been awhile since I have seen this. I know it's not important, but what exactly is thrown at Jodie Foster in the beginning through the jail cell? was that "seed" or "waste"?

it has a memorable character who is referenced in numerous other works and is a part of American pop culture, memorable quotes, etc.

It's more than a character piece, imo. There is enough whodunit and darkness to elevate it from a simple character examination.

Great film. Only time I've ever read a book that's scared me then gone to see the movie and it's STILL scared me. Agree with what everybody has said about the performances of Hopkins AND Foster, quotability, etc...
