I wouldn't expect many people on this board to enjoy it given the main characters darker complexion.

It may not be the best movie, but dang if it isn't the funniest. I still laugh throughout that entire movie. The stuff they say under their breath is hilarious

Pretty straightforward. Someone I work with felt that it was too trippy. I haven't seen it yet, so no comment from me.

Exactly. Plus The Princess and the Frog was great too.

Either they've never done drugs or have never paid attention to any mythology. Possibly both.

That's not a word I'd use to describe it. It's no Alice in Wonderland and I don't see how it's anymore trippy than most of Disney's other catalog.

My thoughts when I saw it: "Well that was exactly what I was expecting. No real surprises there."

I liked the songs and Maui, but the movie left really no impression on me whatsoever. Zootopia managed to do that at least.

It wasn't even the best Disney movie released last year.

I wouldn't say it was top 5, but it's in a group right behind that for me. Felt it hit on all angles and didn't lack anything really. It probably helps that I love mythology though.

Maui needs his own movie

It was a decent movie, but not the best Disney movie

Not Disney. As for your other choices, they are all Pixar save for Frozen and the Lion King. So your point is awful.

?? ...Pixar is Disney. I bet if you look on the DVD of all I listed they will say "Disney" big as hell. You may be right on How To Train Your Dragon. That would be my bad if so.....

Pixar is pretty autonomous though and it hasn't always been under the Disney banner. I think the Incredibles-Ratatouille Pixar was on their own. The only way they were going back to Disney was an up front request not to frick with them. Everything Disney tried to make them do from the start nearly ruined them and the people at Pixar's lives when they started and they screwed them a new a-hole.

So I look at Disney and Pixar as two totally different entities and their movies really aren't all that similar. Pixar goes for more deep pictures while Disney more looks for mass appeal and largely heart warming stories. Pixar's goal in their films is to make you cry and appeal to all of your emotions, while I don't think Disney has that mentality. Yeah Brave seems more like Disney and Wreck It Ralph feels more like Pixar, but other than those 2, it's very easy to point out a Disney from a Pixar film.

Watched it with the kids tonight. Not even close to being best. No emotion from anyone in the family. My kids literally couldn't keep up with the story line. Beautifully done animation, just a written and imagined poorly. Will be forgotten in 10 years.

Maui and the music were good, but I was taken aback on how non-emotionally involved I was. Didn't really give a shite.

I found Moana really disappointing. The middle really dragged (and the stupid crab was terrible). Further, I'm getting really sick of the 'Junior Knows Best' and the 'Sympathy For The Devil' tropes.

Well, all of the movies have Disney labeled on them before Pixar is mentioned. Even before Pixar was "owned" by Disney, Toy Story still had Disney on the DVD. Semantics, I guess...you see them as independent, I see them as Disney. In Disney World, the Pixar merchandise and rides are marketed as Disney's own. There's a "Pixar Place" at Disney theme parks and Pixar costumed characters walk around as prevalent as the old Disney standards.
