John Wick isn't even the best action movie Keanu is in, and I like John Wick.

It's the Matrix, which also happens to be best action movie of all time.

Watched it for the first time last weekend.

I don't watch a lot of movies, and generally avoid Keanu because he's such a shitty actor. Point Break broke me.

But I have to admit is was an entertaining flick. Was neat to see a few actors I recognized from other roles. E.g. Reek, McShane, black cop from The Wire, etc.

Hell, now I want to see the sequel.

Probably not, but every time I watch it I enjoy it more, especially the nightclub action scene. And tbh I didn't think I'd like the movie at all when it came out but it's become one of my recent favorites.

I think there needs to be a concrete definition of "pure action movie."

Because I wouldn't consider the Matrix to be a pure action movie. There's heavy philosophical elements and a tremendous amount of science fiction.

When I read "pure action," I think, "How much of the movie involves action scenes that are of high quality and excitement?" The Matrix has plenty of that, but the reason it's so great is because it makes you ask questions about life.

John Wick is more pure action in that regard. As is Dredd. Even Pacific Rim.

Die Hard, Demolition Man, and The Expendables are pure action.

But the one movie that takes home the title belt for pure action movie is True Lies.

Movie is almost 3 hours of gun fights, explosions, and hand-to-hand combat.

Shame Payback doesn't get the love John Wick gets.

Payback is severely underrated.

and The Killer

when i was a late teen/early 20s person, the killer was my favorite movie

however, john woo then re-did so much of it over and over again that it's lost luster. i just can't separate MI2 from the Killer anymore

good story? no. it's a typical revenge movie

John Wick takes its "actual story" so serious this is the pivotal dialogue

quote:

Viggo Tarasov: I heard you struck my son.
Aurelio: Yes, sir, I did.
Viggo Tarasov: And may I ask why?
Aurelio: Yeah, well, because he stole John Wick's car, sir, and, uh, killed his dog.
Viggo Tarasov: [pause] Oh.

there's not taking yourself seriously and then there is john wick's plot

John Wick has an actual story - so that disqualifies it as the best pure action movie of all time.

300?

300 doesn't have an actual story? That entire movie was the telling of an ancient story.

Terminator II: Judgment Day has got to be in the running as well as Predator. For modern action I believe Edge of Tomorrow doesn't get enough respect. That movie kicks arse.

Lagniappe action movie: Hard Target with Jean Claude set in NOLA. I mean Uncle Boudreaux blows up an entire fricking house with a single arrow.

I like US Marshalls and the first three Die Hards better. And of course Rambo First Blood and the first two Terminators

Also, The Rock

He's definitely dedicated. Oh and don't frick with Keanu. This is his training for John Wick:

BadBoysII is one of my go to action flicks. Guns, fast cars, women, helicopters, comedy, the KKK, drugs, and a crazy Russian.

What else can you ask for?

The Dark Knight although a superhero movie is still one the of the best action films I have ever seen. I remember being riveted watching it for the first time in theaters.
