re: Is Game of Thrones a pop culture phenomenon?

Not quite. I am very involved with pop culture and could not tell you or recognize a character from it.

Only with rich people and those willing to pirate.

Us poor, honest folks are still watching Glory on Sundance tonight.

I named my dog Arya and I'd say an overwhelming majority of people instantly recognize the reference.

yeah it's almost like excellent plot, characters, and development of both (writing), fine direction, great casting, terrific acting, and a big budget equals a quality show. weird.

This. I download it in order to watch it but I'm the only person I know who does out of all the people I know who don't have HBO, which is most people.

You're right, it is a part of even my poor, hbo-less pop culture. Until yesterday when I wore it, I had forgotten, my nephew gave me a tee shirt with something about a "Direwolf" on it. I think he said he bought it when he was stationed in Westeros.
