Is Essos impacted at all by the White Walkers and the long night?

Are the white walkers a Westeros only threat or do they threaten Essos as well when they come down?

I can't remember in the books or show if anyone in the cities on Essos ever mention the White Walkers.

You can't ask this in one of the 47 other GoT threads? We're trying to discuss DC here today.

Essos had its own version of the Long Night a long time ago. That's where the legend of Azor Ahai comes from (Assai) and why the massive Five Fortresses were built.

I forgot about the five fortresses.

So the Westeros version never crosses the Narrow Sea?

Westeros freezes over and Essos just goes along like its any other day? Just seems odd its like that to me

Maybe, maybe not, but the story that is being told takes place in Westeros.

It's possible that Westeros connects somehow to Essos through the north and the five fortresses were for protection against the white walkers/wights.

He also said that Westeros and Essos weren't connected on the opposite side. I guess an ice bridge would've been possible.

We may find out more whenever he decides to release another one of his Planatos "history" books.

If you remember season 1, when Jorah is telling Dany about the Dothraki doomsday prophesy, it sounds very white walker-y.

Something about white flowers spreading throughout the land until everything is covered in white and "this is how the world will end."

From the wiki:
quote:

Ser Jorah Mormont tells Daenerys Targaryen that ghost grass is native to the Shadow Lands. The Dothraki believe that one day ghost grass will fill the entire world, killing all other types of vegetation, and that is how the world will end.

quote:

Ghost grass is a type of vegetation that exists on the continent of Essos. It is found in the Shadow Lands beyond Asshai. Ghost grass is pale in color and glows in the moonlight. It kills other types of grass.

I don't think this is actually referring to the White Walkers since Ghost Gross is actual grass and it only mentions killing off the vegetation (lead to the end). Plus it doesn't say this already happened but will happen.

Dothraki are a pretty simple society. I doubt they keep books or records. Most is probably passed down thru stories and legends

The long night happened a LONGGG time ago. It's like a very long game of telephone. Somewhere along the way snow because ghost grass and a clear story of the long night got lost.
