I finished Season 1, and an ep of season 2. I just am not that into it. It seems like it should be the kind of show I'd like, but I just can't get into it. Does it get significantly better or is this just a show that isn't for me?

It means you suck as a human being.

But seriously, I watched the first season then stopped watching. Then later I watched the first 2 seasons and then stopped watching. I finally forced myself into binging the whole thing and I'm glad I did. Show only gets better the further you get into it.

If I had a dollar for every time this was asked...

I thought it was common knowledge at this point that the later seasons of BB are some of the best in television history.

I would agree but most people who love the show are hooked by the first season. I think it starts out very strong

I felt the same way. I appreciate the show, it's well written and superbly acted. But it was just boring to me.

I never admit this because everyone would look at me like I'm crazy...I tried watching twice. Made it to the second season once. Never cared for it. I'll be the first to downvote this post...

I watched it all the way thru and it was ok. I found most of the characters annoying as hell ,except Mike/Gus

There is still room for it to get you - but not much - you're in early Season 2 - you haven't seen Saul (S2 E8) yet - and 4 Days Out is the very next episode (S2 E9).

If you want to soldier on - if you're not hooked by 4 Days Out, I'd say it isn't for you.

Season 1 was just long enough to get me interested. I watched them over a weekend. Then gradually watched S2 over about 3 weeks. That is what hooked me. The only thing I hated about it was having to watch the last 2 seasons weekly. I got used to streaming a couple of episodes at a time. I wouldn't watch every night, but maybe twice a week I'd settle in for a 2-3 episode stretch. I forget the season numbers now, but it was the last season which was split in two when it aired, and the full season before that where I caught up to it.

The fact that you are asking this question suggests that the answer is yes.

It's possible for a show to be very well written, acted , etc, but not appeal to everyone. Saying you don't enjoy it doesn't mean you're saying it's stupid or bad or overrated. I don't care for it and haven't made it through the first episode after 2-3 attempts, but I'm not going to argue that it's a bad show. It can be at the same time a very well done show and just not for you.

I guess I don't understand this idea that the show gets better because, while it does, the first few seasons are still amazing television. They just somehow managed to make it even better. So if you aren't into it after the first season or two, then it probably just isn't for you. It isn't because it is weak at the beginning or doesn't get going until later.

It took me two tries as well.

It's not that the first couple of seasons are bad, it's that BB fans talk about it as a God send. Someone on here even claimed it was modern Shakespeare.

It gets put on such a pedestal that it's almost impossible to live up to for us late bloomers.

My problem is that I don't relate to the whole premise of BB. The drug scene at any level was never my scene.

It's a hard watch for people who like to have a clear cut protagonist. This show intentionally makes you root for bad people, and then as the story unfolds, you switch to rooting against them. It's a bit manipulative in that way, but it's an amazing peice of art because of it. Sometimes, in a matter of one or two episodes, you switch allegiances multiple times.

In the end, there's hardly anyone to really identify with or root for. You end up in a pretzel of logic like "I really like xxxxx, but he deserves to die and it will be glorious when he does"!

This is certainly part of my issue with watching it. But I know at the outset that I will not care for the protagonist at all and will root against him (and probably the same for many other main characters). I got that much from the first episode. The thought of doing that over multiple seasons just doesn't appeal to me.

I would make it into season 3. If its still not for you then by all means quit.

It is the GOAT though.

I found the show well-made but it wasn't for me. Depressing characters.

Breaking Bad premiered on cable television in 2008. You have to watch it knowing that when it came out, nothing besides The Shield had been similar to its dark tone, gritty elements, and disturbing material.

People that had HBO were able to see The Sopranos and The Wire, but for someone like me, Breaking Bad was a breakthrough in what a television show could be.
