I never saw it so I can't comment. What makes it so bad? Is it it's so bad it's good or is it really just that painful?

The plot holes are egregious. The story is pretty cool, as a sci-fi fan.

I want to honestly say I made it 10 minutes in. It may be the only movie that I quit on

The pilot training sums it up.

In retrospect I think films have come along that are much worse. I wouldn't even put this in the top 20 or even 30 of all time terrible.

Is it at least worthy of a drinking game?

I am of the personal belief that it is so bad it's good. One of the best examples I can think of. I immensely enjoyed it honestly, because it's comedic gold. Granted, it does drag to a screeching halt when Travolta isn't on screen.

It's one of my guilty pleasure movies. But I acknowledge its shittiness.

First viewing, so bad it's good. Second viewing, painful.

It's just bizarre honestly. The alien race looks totally ridiculous.

I think it's so bad that it loops all the way around from the so bad it's good category all the way back to bad.

It is laughably bad, but in a very painful way.

For me it is like a train wreck that you can't stop looking at.

I thought it was terribly, terribly uninteresting.

This is more or less how I feel. The idea of humanity rebelling against an alien race after a millennium or so of being conquered is cool. Some action sequences are decent. Travolta is ridiculous.

Overall, it's bad, but I have seen much worse movies. I think it gets a lot of hate because it came out around the time that Travolta started to get a lot of publicity for being a crazy scientologist. This movie is a particularly easy target because it is based off of the book by L. Ron Hubbard.

For being so bad, its probably the most accurate movie about what would happen when aliens invaded Earth, ie the movie says it took, 20 minutes I believe to conquer the world.

Problem is, there is another 1.5 hours of movie after that revelation.
