Is Batman Returns the best super hero movie?

Watching it on HBO right now, and it's a classic. Epic cast with Keaton, Pfeiffer, and DeVito. Also directed by the legend Tim Burton. Kind of tough to top.

No. DeVito killed the Penguin for years after that one. Too much Burton for the character's own good.

A lot of people I know don't like the Burton Batman films because of how much they focus on the villains rather than Batman, himself.
Personally though, I think the Burton ones are the best and miles better than the Nolan films. Just me though.

Dark Knight
Iron Man
Guardians of the Galaxy
Winter Soldier
Deadpool
Logan
Others that probably be up for consideration

Yeah kind of weird to put it on HBO Family lol. Walken is also great!

Naaaa, that would be Superman.
However, Batman and Returns have such a unique tone, I would say they are both in the top couple of tiers. As

They are better than Nolan's versions.

I know it's unpopular opinion but I think the original with Keaton and Nicholson is top 2/3 of the series

Take Winter Soldier and Deadpool off of this list and you are probably right.

The Burton Batman films were the ones that I came of age watching. It was a great time when Batman had just become gritty pretty much, and the first film was a revelation when it came out. I purchased the VHS and during the summer of 1990 watched it just about every day. It was, and continues to be great.
Here is the problem that I have with Batman '89 and Returns...Burton completely missed the essence of the character. As someone else mentioned, his focus was on the villains, but the biggest issue was he took away what made Batman Batman.
In Batman '89, he had Batman use guns and rockets in an attempt to kill both the Joker and his henchmen. In Returns, Burton had the title character attach a bomb to a member of the circus gang and set another guy on fire.
In short, Burton's Batman is not just a killer, he's a killer without remorse, and that is in complete opposition with who Batman is. So, no, Batman Returns is not the best super hero movie. In fact, Batman could not have returned at all, because he never showed up in the first place.

I think both Burton Batman movies were great but the 1st was better IMO. I think Burton wanted to have more mystery around Batman is part of the reason he focused on the villains a lot.

Don't think anyone comes close to touching her as the best catwoman.
