Is 2016 the worst year in movies ever? I guess 1999 and 2011...

could give it a run for the money but its pretty bad. Even the big blockbusters failed miserably.

Being cinema has been around for a while..probably not the worst ever.

Failed to deliver or failed to generate money?

Matrix, Sixth Sense, and Fight Club and that's it. And I consider those to be good not great movies.

The Sixth Sense
South Park Movie
Galaxy Quest
Being John Malkovich

1999 had The Matrix, American Pie, Fight Club, Boondock Saints, Toy Story 2, and the Green Mile.

Of course it also had Star Wars Episode I so there is that.

2016 just had a lot of bad blockbuster movies. Civil War was the only high budget movie I can think of that truly delivered on its expectations. Rogue One was great but I don't think it was as good as the hype. I'm probably forgetting a couple great movies though.

no, you really aren't. Of movies I have seen in 2016, I really only liked a handful:

Deadpool
Zootopia
Doctor Strange
Civil War
Jungle Book
Star Trek Beyond

Sausage Party saves 2016, IMO.

2016 was an amazing year for horror movies. So there's that. And, also, a great year for animated movies. So two oft critically neglected genres had their moment in the sun.

But it was a fairly dismal year for Hollywood blockbusters and the Oscar bait movies don't seem to be all that compelling. Well, at least we got Arrival.

BTW, 1999 was a pretty good year. Aside from The Matrix and Fight Club. You had the Straight Story, The Iron giant, All about My Mother, Magnolia, Office Space, Being John Malkovich, Boys Don't Cry, South Park, American Pie, Dogma, Man in the Moon, Eyes Wide Shut, Galaxy Quest, Girl Interrupted, Election, Arlington Road, Titus, Audition, Three Kings, and Stir of Echoes. Pretty solid year.

Me too. One of my favorites of 2016. It has a high rewatchability factor for me as well.

Yeah, 1999 was one of the best years for movies outside of the 70s.
Fight Club, The Matrix, American Beauty, Toy Story 2, Being John Malkovich, Rushmore, Magnolia, Office Space, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Go, Election, South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut, Summer of Sam, American Pie, Eyes Wide Shut, Blair Witch Project, The Sixth Sense, The Insider, Galaxy Quest, Dogma, The Limey, The Virgin Suicides -- that's a deep lineup of movies.
