Interstellar inappropriate for a preteen?

Want to watch with my 10 year old but if there's sex scenes and too much violence then obviously will not.

They probably will not understand what's going on near the end of the movie, but it's not inappropriate for a 10 year old at all.

if you'd consider it inappropriate for a preteen I'd question your parenting style

I just really wanna see the movie. Return of the Jedi it is then

It's not inappropriate at all. Let her watch it. You are misreading responses. I think you see a couple of necks and maybe some wrist. Also, there is some hugging.

There's absolutely no sex scenes (I think there's only like 1 kiss total in the film), and only 2 scenes I think that could be possibly seen as violent, but certainly nothing worse than anything he or she has seen. Return of the Jedi is far more violent than Interstellar, where Leia chokes out a fat turd, multiple people are eaten alive, and several others are decapitated and lit on fire. In Interstellar less than 5 people die and they mostly die do to natural circumstances.
And you're clearly expecting Interstellar to be something it isn't at all. It's a film about the survival of humanity and it's overall destiny. It's not really violent at all and is more supposed to be majestic like 2001.
And no offense, but a 10 year old is mature enough to see really any PG-13 movies. They're 1 year away from puberty, and I assure you they've seen much more fricked up things than you think they have. They're smart enough to get what sex is about and can understand if a guy is shot and killed. They're not idiots (for the most part). Stop sheltering your kid, especially if you think Interstellar may be too violent and sexual for them.

I don't think anyone understands exactly whats going on near the end of the movie.
Its perfectly appropriate for a 10 year old though.

A 10 year old watching Interstellar?
I have a daughter almost 10 and she is scary smart. She would not have the first clue watching Interstellar.
That is a bad age for that movie: Too old to just enjoy the visuals and too young to figure out what is going on.

I understand the trepidation....Going through a wormhole is a thinly veiled metaphor for dirty fricking

a machine cutting a woman open to take a alien baby out, may be a little much for a 10 year to see

Not really. No sex. Maybe some intense scenes and language. I think it's fine.

No sex, little violence. I thought the movie was PG. It may be a little over a 10 year olds head

None. I dont really consider 10 a "preteen" though. They can watch it, but I doubt theyll understand a word from it. They even had an on set physicist to make sure all the discussions about blackholes, wormholes, and relativity were accurate. I would be surprised if they enjoyed it, but no sex scenes or anything vulgar.

Interstellar is not Prometheus.
