Anyone else excited about seeing it?

On one hand, I loved the first one. ID4 was a pure, unadulterated, summer popcorn flick. The hype for that movie was off the charts. Its going to be fun seeing the story continued but I'm not sure the second one will have the "charm" (for lack of a better term) the first one had. The first one was set in our *reality* (The McLaughlin Group made a cameo. They used an Apple laptop to upload a Trojan Horse virus, etc.) and it was also sort of a groundbreaking movie in several respects. The second one is set in a different/alternate 2016 because obviously it takes place 20 years after defeating the aliens with all sorts of new technology and even bigger destruction. Its not going to be as relatable.

I know its a sci-fi film about aliens and I'm supposed to just eat my popcorn and let the CGI wash over me, but I'm curious if the sequel will be as fun as the first one was.

If will Smith was involved I'd be less excited.

I loved the first one. I remember being in high school and talking about it in school well before it came out then talking about it next fall. It T2 and Jurassic park were like that.

I'm really excited to see this movie. I was a Theater manager when the first one came out. The movie was so long we had to schedule it later in the night to get 4 showings. I would finish in the office in time to catch the last hour of the movie. So I watched it dozens of times. I loved it every time.

Nope.

I remember seeing the first one with my dad in the theater. That was right before, or right as the internet was becoming mainstream, so I didn't have all the access to hype like today, and didn't know much about it other than seeing a trailer once or twice. Needless to say, I walked out of that theater blown away.

I do not think that experience can be replicated.

I'll watch it, probably at home though.

I have the same concerns. The first one didn't take itself too seriously and was just a fun movie. The trailers so far make this one look much darker and more intense. Now that doesn't mean it won't be enjoyable, but as you said it might not have the same "charm" as the original.

I expect it to be total crap, and I'm going to love it. Just a blast of cheesy fun bullshite. A must see for me.

Have any of you heard that this movie is teaming up with the army for its ad campaign and recruitment videos? I heard a piece on NPR the other day for it. You can't make this shite up.

Independence Day might be my favorite movie of all time. Doubt this lives up to the first one but I'm still looking forward to seeing it.

I'll go watch it for nostalgia purposes, but I'm not expecting it to be anywhere near as good as the first.

Just a fun summertime popcorn blockbuster that'll keep me entertained.

Of course it won't be as fun. We're 20 years older now. Nothing is quite as fun.
