Well the prequels made them feel less powerful and even disposable to a certain degree.

Not all Jedi are great with a lightsaber. But I agree they died a little too easily in episode 2.

Sheer numbers. It was a few dozen jedi, mostly apprentices and knights verses thousands of geonosans and droids. Also, not all jedi are combat oriented. Many are more scholars and religious leaders than warriors, just like not all members of the army are rangers.

So they have the power to manipulate and move objects but can't do that to droids?

They can, they also can use their sabers to deflect blaster beams, but with that many droids, they simply can't stop or deflect everything.

They are much more powerful in the books. One Jedi even destroyed a star destroyer using the force in one of the books. He died in the process though.

Because this is the level of Bad Assness that the Jedi had on Geonosis.

I vaguely remember that the forces in the arena weren't the elite Jedi combat types. More of whoever was avaliable at a moments notice

what arena?
Many of the Jedi that fell were not fully trained Jedi Knights. I believe around 200 were sent to the Geonosian arena and about two dozen survived. The more powerful Jedi were engaged in battle in other areas of the planet which was not shown in the movies.

Did you not see how many of those droids and bug monster things they were fighting against?
The Brits had way better training and tech at the Battle of Isandlwana but the Zulu still kicked their asses. The Russians had frick all for available weaponry but their sheer numbers helped repulse the Nazis. The Spartans had the best fighting force on the planet and an excellent defensive position but could not withstand the Persian hoards at Thermopylae.

The Jedi being wimpy is one of my big gripes with the prequels. In episode 3, Palpatines fight with the jedi is simply laughable. 3 of those Jedi just stand there and get wiped out in an instant.

That may have been the worst fight scene in the entire 6 movies. It's 3 on 1 (or was it 4 on 1) and 2 of them are struck down by Palpatine after he draws his lightsaber in the slowest and most unathletic manner possible

Some are not infected with the virus as much as others.

It's a scene that underscores the greatness of empire
A Jedi's strength flows through the force
War does not make one great
Apparently the Jedi are creepy monk cops who enforce their own law using laser batons
frick Lucas

The prequels made no sense in the grand scheme.
So Jedi were fricking everywhere in the prequels, yet they are all killed/in hiding 20 something years and people stop believing in them already and calling it a hoky religion or superstition.
I can understand 100 years or so, but 20 years?
