I just wanted to get a little background on this world before Fury Road this weekend. I thought it was alright, not as much action as I thought there was going to be. And I knew it was exploitation going in so I wasnt expecting a complex story or anything like that.
Still pumped for Fury Road though.
I have one small question though. How come Johnny the Boy was chained up when Max and Goose get to the crime scene where they had kidnapped (and I guess raped?) that young couple? Did Toecutter's gang to that?

May want to watch Road warrior. It is more in line with style of Fury Road. There is a pretty big leap between the word in Fury Road and Mad Max, as there has been years and years of turmoil since the blast.

He was chained to the girl iirc, like she was his slave. I can't remember why he was all delirious and what not though.

Because Johnny was the craziest mfer in the gang - like mentally ill crazy, as opposed to merely vicious.

True. It seemed like he was beaten up or something though in that scene. Or maybe he was just high on something

I've never understood the love for Mad Max. I guess people like it because it's so bleak and gritty, but I always found it kind of slow and boring. Road Warrior is so much better IMO. If you were just going to watch 1 to get acquainted with the world, it should be Road Warrior.

Meh. There is plenty of action in Mad Max - it is just that 90% of the U.S. market saw Road Warrior first. Road Warrior is the less serious, but certainly more "fun" film. Part of the problem is the tone - what remained of the "establishment" was trying to hang on during Mad Max - that's the obvious conflict - Order versus Chaos - and it was tough because, as in real life, it's not always easy to see which is which.
By the time of the events of The Road Warrior - there was little semblence of civilization and it was an every Max for himself, battle for survival at that point - good versus evil, right versus wrong, weak versus strong - and, particularly American audiences like that sort of film better.
Amazingly, because of filmmaking style, choice to film in a more desert setting, and the tone, comes off "brighter", despite an obvious decline in civilization since the first film - Thunderdome strikes a balance between the two and, while maligned, has its share of high points, too.
Road Warrior is the most rewatchable of the 3 "Gibson" Mad Max movies, no question.

It's been a long time since I've seen it, but I think what I remember really standing out and leading to the boring feeling wasn't a lack of action but a lack of dialogue.

There's just no pleasing some people.

Road Warrior was always superior to the original Mad Max. Hell liked Beyond Thunderdome better than the original.

It's over. Toecutter's done.

Actually I was quite pleased with Road Warrior.

I. Am. The. Night Rider.
I would actually like a prequel to Mad Max. Apocalyptic instead of post-apocalyptic.

mad max was also done very low budget, and it shows.
its a pretty intense flick though, deals with some heavy topic and gives you insight into mad max.
Goign to see fury road on tuesday, excited to see it.
