But apparently, it's a thing.

People will never stop hating Grandpa Joe from 'Willy Wonka'

quote:

Somehow, this community is still going strong two years hence; as of April 2016, the page has 14,000 fans. And the numbers keep growing.

As if to confirm the recent renaissance of Grandpa Joe hate, an entire subreddit devoted to this position emerged earlier this week, and it already has close to 1,000 subscribers. The memes there are vicious and, like most in this vein, they focus on Grandpa Joe's selfishness. (Meanwhile, other users have questioned whether Joe is even Charlie's real grandfather, suggested his talent for fellatio, and condemned his tobacco habit.)

He was kind of racist to Fred from Scooby Doo's dad, so that might be part of it.

I looked that up and still have no explanation. What does that mean?

Jack Albertson played "The Man" on Chico and The Man. "Chico" was played by Freddie Prinze. Freddie Prinze's son played Fred in the live action Scooby Doo movies (with Buffy).

Damn, that's an obscure convoluted reference. Impressive.

No doubt. And then he has the nerve to not only get pissed at Wonka at the end when he's the one that stole shite, but also intentionally told Charlie to break the confidentiality agreement and give Slugworth the everlasting gobstopper.

Dude was a clown show for sure. The Fizzy Lifting Drink room had to be sterilized and the ceiling cleaned. That shite ain't free, Joe. Not to mention it was experimental anyway.

What a bitch.

It's in the link. I listened to it before posting.

He does have kind of a point.

Why didn't he get up out of bed sooner, instead of waiting until he got a free ride to the Chocolate Factory? Was it not enough to inspire him to walk that Charlie's widowed mother slaved away for all six people in that shack, not to mention cleaning up after 4 bedridden elderly people. What a selfish, sycophantic old man.

I hated that movie. Weird and creepy. Classic family film? I think not.

Yeah, I was trying to remember which sports radio host it was. That was definitely the first time I heard the take on what a tpos Grandpa Joe was.
