Started rewatching this gem from 1976 a few days ago. I know HBO acquired the rights to the novels in 2011. Has anyone heard of any movement?

Would an unknown play Claudius in your opinion, or should Daniel Day Lewis just be penciled in?

I can't tell you how many times I have watched the series. Brian Blessed, and the lady who played Livia were great. Also Captain Picard as Sejanus.

Great series. Would be cool if HBO actually remade it.

Don't see HBO doing another super expensive show at the same time as GOT.

Tell that to Rome.

Rome never showed any real large scale battles. Didn't show much more than a few locations and yet it was one of the most expensive HBO shows to date.

They canceled the show because it was too expensive. If anyone is still around in power from the Rome series, I doubt they will be gung-ho to dive back into the Roman Era.

Sure, it could be done on a tight budget like the original, but I can already see the producers thinking every aspect of Claudius needs to be jazzed up.

I Claudius is more of a play. Theater. If HBO followed it in that vein, you don't need expensive sets. The genius of the series was the scriptwriting and acting.

I said it could be shot on a tight budget. I also said I don't see it happening.

I wish it would, but I still think given the problems with Rome, HBO in the end, won't shoot it.
