From the last scene when he is talking to Claus, it seems like Ted realizes then that he doesn't want to marry Victoria. I really how they don't drag that out for a full season

All of a sudden? They've been moving those two together since Season 3. I can see you not wanting them together, but to argue it was done haphazardly and at the last minute doesn't seem to jive with the history of the show, which has always posited that these two are the male/female equivalents of one another.

I could argue for days that you couldnt be more wrong. The show has evolved Barney in a way that makes him getting together with Robin, completely against everything that he has done up to this poit in the show.

When Barney and Robin first got together it was purely a fling and it was based on sex. As soon as it moved past that, they realized how terrible they were together sp they broke up. Past that point the only time Barney has ever "wanted" Robin was because someone else was with her and he couldnt have her (this shows his immaturity). Examples of this are when Robin got serious with the news anchor and when Ted and Robin started hooking up to stop fighting (Barney threw TVs and everything about this)

Then later Barney finally starts to grow up and move on from Robin when he dates Nora. Shes awesome and he likes everything about her and wants hmeverything he thought he didnt want before (kids, marriage etc). This is where he develops past just a womanizer to someone you can tell wants more than that. After all that Barney sleeps with Robin again and now has a want for Robin again. At this point he breaks up with a great girl that loved him to be with Robin, and what does she do? Tell him she cant break up with Kumar, which she has no real feelings for.

Here is his breaking point. Thats his closure for Robin. He broke his heart with making him break Noras. At this point, he is completely over her. He realizes in his head that they are too similar in some ways and too different in others (wanting kids). He has grown past what should be a phase (Robin). He has matured and is now really looking to settle down. This is proven to me when something was going on with Robin (i think when Ted told her he loved her for the billionth time) and he asks Barney how he feels about it, and Barney says with a straight face in complete truth that "I really dont care, dont have feeling for her." Now this is the same Barney that had shown no ability over 8 seasons to hide his emotions. That means he truely felt that way imo.

So now you have last seasons finally where Barney finally decides he wants to marry Quinn because shes perfect for him. He spends 29 minutes of the show proposing and growing truely past the point of being a manwhore. He has settled down, he has come full circle from where he was after he and Robin broke up. He is a mature person now....OHH WAIT NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN ROBIN AND BARNEY ARE AT THE WEDDING ABOUT TO GET MARRIED. Whattt??? Why couldnt you do that 3 seasons ago?? Whats the point of all that growth of Barney if hes just going to go back to a girl that has broke his heart countless times, wants completely different things in life and have shown to be terrible together.

They made the last couple season pointless. And if Ted cant be with Robin because they want differwnt things, then why is that not the same reasoning for Barney??

No, that's what they told each other, and others, but it was based on more than that, and they had a real connection. I nfact, I think they've always had a real rapport, which is why the writers moved the two together.

Everything else you wrote is just a series of complications to prevent the two getting together. Is it realistic? Only in sitcom land, but I don't have much of a problem with it. In fact, it's Robin who arranges for Barney to have a date on Valentine's Day with another girl, and she does it because she loves him and wants him to be happy. It's always been those kind of self-created complications to keep the two apart.

Eventually, the excuses will fall apart and the contrivances will be exposed to be just that and the two will end up together. I don't think it is against anything the show has done, much less everything.

They are fated to be together. So they will. That's how the HIMYM universe works.

Certainly, you realize that 97% of Barney's behavior is written as compensation for his adolescence, correct?

The best part about last night's episode was getting "The Funeral" stuck in my head.

That and Klaus.

I'm still not sold that the wedding was for Barney and Robyn as a couple (more of a double wedding). I think it's going to be a big ole' "frick you" again from the writers. It will end up Ted retelling the story with the "little" details he left out.

It's for Barney and Robin. You can stop doubting.

Yes, my point is that he had matured past that and past Robin.

t's getting downright annoying at this point

they have nothing to lose by introducing the future wife
they can spend a whole season showing how they got together and what started the relationship

Am I the only person thats gonna be pissed if the mother ends up being some random person that no one knows at the end of the show? With the way they constantly intertwine the present and past characters relationships, I kinda want it to be someone we've seen before. Ted really hasn't grown all that much, IMO. So, if they just truck some random person out without at least spending some time explaining to us "why her?" then this entire show has been a complete waste of time.

Ted is an arse hole. Pretty messed up to talk some girl out of getting married, then realize shes not quite what he was looking for 30 min later.

I think they realized that was the case so they wrote in Clause leaving her as a way to absolve Ted of any wrong

Yeah I'm interested to see how long they keep Victoria around now that Ted knows he doesn't want to be with her. I kinda hope he breaks up with her next week so that way it isn't dragged out. But at the same time it would kinda piss me off if they brought her back just for 3 episodes. Seems kinda pointless

I also hope Marshall and Lily become more involved. They were pretty boring in the first episode

I'm wondering if they run into Klaus at some point and it comes up that neither of them know the other wanted to bail, and then Victoria gets pissed at Ted for lying to her.

That's the problem with the show. They can't introduce the mother beforehand, otherwise there's no buildup to the finale. Keep in mind that the show is about how he meets the mother, not how he falls in love or marries her. But....They also can't just end the show when they meet. It would be a major letdown and we wouldn't know a thing about her.

As for Robin and Barney....its a forced relationship that has dragged on for far too long.

She is definitely going to be random. Why would they have given us 1000 hints about who she is if we already knew who she was the entire time?

I imagine Victoria wont even be in the next episode, I figured they would just start it with Ted and her broken up and "the gang" at Mclarens talking about it.

I'm starting to believe that its going to be Barney's sister. So it will be someone random, but not random at the same time
