How come Eddie Murphy never played any high school or college aged characters?

Considering the fact that Murphy was only 19 when he starts on SNL and 21 years old when he made his feature film debut, it seems rather unusual how none of his characters were ever high school or college aged characters. Was there a particular reason for this? Did he hate playing adolescent characters or did he want there to be less focus on his young age or was there some other reason why he usually played characters with no specific age or were wise beyond his years?

Because he appeared fairly mature at the beginning.

And, during that era, there weren't a whole lot of lead roles for a black actor in those types of films. Certainly could have been done, but his schtick was a fast-talking, clever urbanite (Reggie Hammond maybe not so sophisticated) - not so much for his presentation as a "student" misfit or otherwise, HS or college.

I mean, he was 20 or 21 in 48 hours and credibly played a cat who had been in jail for years for armed robbery, after an undetermined career as part of Ganz's crew. Realistically, that character reads as 28 to 30. He's the "anti-Alan Ruck".

Because he looked 30 when he was only 20.

In Coming to America he is 21 year old male, he tells his father that he is 21 and hasn't seen the world.

I guess it's hard for someone who says dick 100 times in his stand up routine to be taken seriously as a younger aged kid in the 80s. But what do I know. I have limited experience with that decade
