It's asinine to think an untrained force sensitive novice and an untrained, non-force sensitive footsoldier can beat a highly trained Jedi turned Sith

I don't see a highly trained [former] Jedi or a Sith in that scene.

Regarding Finn, he isn't just some chump that they gave a blaster to. He's highly trained in hand-to-hand combat. And yet a mortally wounded Kylo Ren was able to easily dispatch him when he wanted to.

As pointed out already, Rey is a boss with a staff, so combining that skill with her learning to channel the Force isn't a reach. Rey bought enough time until the earthquake against the same mortally wounded Kylo Ren.

That's a bit harsh. He used to bullseye womp rats in his T-16 back home.

I mean, if Kylo didn't want to toy with him, why didn't he just kill Finn the second he checked to see if Rey was ok? Yeah, Kylo needs Rey alive, but Finn, no he could just kill him. I'm sure he hasn't had a lightsaber fight in years, so he probably just wanted to enjoy it play softball with him.

I just assumed Kylo was toying with Finn b/c he wanted to rub it in on how bad of a decision it was to turn on the New Order.

Humiliating an adversary before you kill them is quite common throughout history.

Then he gets his arse thoroughly flattened by a chick that had never wielded a lightsabre until 3 minutes prior to flattening.

He got hit with a the full brunt of a Shotgun laser blast that was throwing stork troopers 20 feet backwards, and had just killed his own father, and WA slrettt obviously familiar with Rey, and he wanted to keep her alive and have her join forces with him. The force is all about concentration. Those things would've hurt.

There are some legit criticisms of TFA, but the movie is fricking awesome and this is one of the stupidest criticisms out there.

In my opinion they ruined it when he took off his helmet. He came across as a whiny little emo bitch.

The point was to show him as an immature wannabe, had talent but not yet ready for prime time.

You seriously expect Adam Driver to ever be taken seriously or respected?

He's a terrible villain. He's Hollywood mocking white males today.

Give it up, man. They'll never let go of their rationalizations and excuses not to admit that the movie sucked.

Exactly. At what point did Kylo look really bad against Finn? LINK The one time Finn got a lucky shot in and Kylo got serious and immediately ended the fight?
Watch when Finn goes to Rey after Kylo knocks her out. When he rolls her over she does most of the work.

Kylo is a shitty emo douche. He's better as a SNL Undercover Boss character than as a decent Star Wars villain. That says enough.
Forgot to add quote. THIS!

I thought the movie also makes a point about stormtroopers being trained to use melee weapons that can parry lightsabers so it isn't unfathomable that Finn can engage a lightsaber wielder.

he got his arse beat by that dude with one at Maz's place.

to the OP: i get the impression that he's a whiny douche, which is why he left Luke to be all whiny and douchey with the First Order.

lot of raw talent, but untrained and undisciplined. Hologram Jar Jar makes it pretty clear that he's a noob and needs to be brought to him for further training.

Kylo Rens story isn't over, so this thread has no point.

How can he be a bad villian when he hasn't had a chance to become one yet? We judged Anakin after 3 movies and he was the worst character in the history of fiction.

He can be a bad villain based on what we've seen so far.

I don't think anyone is saying "that's it, he's a bad villain forever."

You're focusing on the wrong thing. It isn't that Kylo is so bad that Rey beat him. It's that Rey is so in tune with the force, and the will of the force was for her to win, so she did win. That doesn't take away from Kylo.

In Rogue One, Chirrut Îmwe (the monk from Jedha) walks right through a firefight. Why does he do this? Because the force will protect him if he is acting on the will of the force. Same concept with the Kylo vs Rey fight. Rey doesn't realize it going in, but the force is on her side. Protecting her. Guiding her during the fight.

I interpret the title "The Force Awakens" to mean that the force is imbuing more sentient life with force sensitive capabilities. The Sith empire was destroyed and left with only 2. The Jedi have nearly been wiped out. The Force is trying to restore balance to the universe. This great awakening is how that's happening. And Rey is an important part of restoring that balance. She is one with the force. The force is with her.

Yep. Me, the South Park guys, millions of people who like movies that don't employ formulas and aren't just reboots of older movies. We sure are lonely.
