I'm with you on Infinite Jest. The crazy thing is I love DFW's essays. He's such a great writer, but Infinite Jest... what a chore. Just read Consider the Lobster. Same with Joyce. Read Portrait of an Artists as a Young Man.

Probably so.

I would also suggest anyone who liked HoL to read Potoki's The Manuscripts Found at Saragossa. That book was a ton of fun as well. Less impenetrable, more playfulness with literary tropes, not necessarily narrative form.

It was funny. I got it on my inner arm above the elbow, and I'd always heard that's a more painful place to have a tattoo. I have a fairly large one over my entire outer arm above the elbow, so I ask the guy what the discomfort on this one would be. He looks at my arm and says, "Really?"

Really easy sitting. In and out in an hour. My next one is gonna take two days. Ugh.

I want so bad to go literary or artsy with a tattoo but I can't settle on a quote or image. Have also leaned very closely to something Allman Brothers Band.

Meanwhile, my brother in law is a freshman in college and just surprised everyone with a $300 koi fish yin-yang tattoo on his upper arm.
