LINK

It's pretty funny and enlightened me on somethings about the movie. But as a kid, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I actually saw it before I ever heard of the original. I don't get the hate for it.

GB2 is one of the best sequels of all time.

Seriously.

First, you hate on Grandpa Joe, and now this. You disappoint me, Coco.

GB 2 will always be greatness to me. I don't care what anyone says.

Grandpa Joe is a selfish piece of shite.

But GB2 is a great movie. Haven't we discussed this before?

I honestly had no idea that there were people and critics out there that didn't like GB2 until a couple years ago.

I wasn't aware there were people who LIKED Ghostbusters 2 until recently. It is such a flaming piece of shite which lazily rehashes the last movie so everyone can collect a paycheck. Hell, even the people who made it hate it. I mean, there's nostalgia, and then there's pretending GB2 is any good.

Ghostbusters 2 got panned because it shared so many plot points from the first and has been looked upon in a negative light in later years because Murray feels embarrassed by it.

The story isn't as tight as the first, but dammit if it isn't an all time great comedy in my opinion. It may have more quotable funny bits than the original.

"It is Vigo! You are the buzzing of flies to him!"

Janosz Poha is one of my favorite characters in any movie.

What I didn't get was why Janine turned into a slut.

she was basically a new character played by the same person.

I never hated GB 2. It was not as good as the first one, but it was far from a bad movie. It was still fun and had its fair share of scary and laugh out loud moments.

Yeah, this.

Maybe if you're younger and you didn't see the original as a kid when it was in the theater, but as a 14 year old when the original came out, GB2 was terribly disappointing. Didn't the cast hate it too? So much so it essentially killed the franchise?

I will concede to this. I was born in '84. I had Ghostbusters 2 on VHS (not 1 for some reason) and watched the hell out of it when I was a kid.

Watching it now, I see some issues, but I don't think the issues are as prevalent as some of the older fans think. I think a lot of the hate comes from disappointment. I mean, Dana having a baby strictly for plot reasons was kind of lame. Janosz Poha probably annoyed the shite out of people, but I thought he was funny. I'm sure there are many more. The nostalgia is just too strong for me to say it's not great. I watched it the other day and I could see my wife rolling her eyes in annoyance because I was quoting almost every scene.

ETA: And who didn't get scared shitless at this part when they were a kid?:

I had to look away every time when I was younger.

I really liked the second one as well, but I was born in '83 so that may have a hand in it. But it was funny and the scene with the toaster was great.

I remember thinking it was a let down. It really is the same plot. I also never got how New Yorkers 'forgot' about the stay puft marshmallow man and all the stuff from the first movie.

Agreed.

I've had several discussions on here in the past few years about it. I think it's one of the better sequels ever. Best? Nah. But up there? Sure.

It has a decent plot (especially if you thought the first one had a good plot ), and it's arguably more quotable than the original movie.

I have damn near zero recollection of GB2. When I saw the thread title, I was thinking it was a reference to the remake.

Ghostbusters 2 isn't a bad film IMO, but since it draws so many comparisons to the great first film, it has a bad reputation. It was actually rushed into production by the studio head and was written and filmed in the fall/winter of 1988 and subsequently released in June 1989. Given its restrictions, it turned out to be a decent film. The entire courtroom scene was the best part of the film to me.
