Four part series. Replay of 1, and 2 debuts tonight.

A great look at the relationship between Dr. Dre and Jimmy Lovine.

I knew it was going to be set off when Dre was head banging to Nirvana's "Stay Away" in the opening 15 mins. Peep it out.

The first episode was outstanding. I loved the segment with Bruce Springston and also the stuff with World Class Wrecking Crew.

i watched all 4 of them today. There was a lot of studio film from back in the day with a lot of artists. I enjoyed that, and a bit different perspective on some events. Although I felt at certain points it was more of a Dr. Dre documentary, and that most of it was a replay of stuff we knew already. With that said, it was still good, and I really really enjoyed it. It was basically how interscope became a label.

Holy shite. Tom Petty looks SO burnt. The son of a bitch can makes some music though. Refugee sounds amazing on a good system. Almost all of his songs do, but that one in particular.

Not gonna lie, I was pissed that HBO made us wait another week for GoT for this, but it is very good.

The footage from Dre's first time on the tables at a club was fricking awesome. The Postman FTW!!! That would be a chart topper today.

The footage from Easy in the studio is also pure gold. Dude could not rap

The Iovine stuff has been surprisingly good too. Love his backstory with Springstein. Had no idea Because the Night by Patti Smith was a song that he got The Boss to give up.

Part 2 is just, wow. All of that music from Eazy Does It to Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty, The D.O.C. No One Can Do It Better. I wore The D.O.C. out and had to get a new tape and it spawned my obsession with stereos and speakers. ****z4Life was jaw dropping. She Swallowed It still makes me laugh just thinking about it. The music in this episode is brilliantly produced. I don't care for U2's music, but recognize that their talent is limitless practically. I got chills watching that episode. Unbelievable.

Just wrapping up this series. This is one of the top 5 documentaries I've ever seen. The editing and the pace of the two stories was incredible.

Finished it last night. I had already been aware of a goood chunk of the Dre story, but I had only knew who Jimmy iovine was just from hearing his name. Dude has worked with a huge variety of people, found his story very interesting. Great documentary overall

It's crazy to think how fast rap progressed in a short time. NWA and Eninem were ten years apart.

I have watched all but the last episode. I had never heard of this Iovine character, but damn, he was all over music for the last few decades. It's incredible of how influencial he has been for so many artists.

But after watching all of Dre's parts of the documentary, it really made me respect the hell of that man even more so that I already did. Hearing him jamming out to Nirvana is what really sold me. He has a hell of a good ear, and has that special intuition that recognizes gold when he sees and hears it. I would compare him to the Steve Jobs of the music business. It's funny that they would cross paths with Beats.

Edit: Watching the section on him and Eminem now, and how Dre got a lot of flack when he first found Eminem and was trying to get his name out there. All of this flack was from other black guys in the business, and how they were giving Dre this shite for giving this white guy a chance. He said he realized how many racists were in the business, and nonetheless, he always had Em's back. I'd enjoy having a beer with this man. He has some life wisdom.

The range of artists he worked with and now has on his label is nuts

Because it was recorded at Sound City. If you have not seen the excellent music doc Sound City, give it a watch. It's free on Amazon Prime.

I am about tomwatch episode one of Defiant Ones now. I remember when Jimmy said that Tupac and Biggle were writing stuff as deep as the Beatles back when they (Biggie & Pac) were still alive. Although, I disagree with that, I understand the sentiment and still listen to them both a great deal. They were amazing and Jimmy was able to see that before many other music execs.

Excellent documentary.

One thing that particularly interested me was the source awards incident. I'd love to watch an entire documentary on that from all the different viewpoints; the death row crew, bad boy, wu tang, and all the other random east coast rappers. It seems we only know about it from the death row and bad boy perspective, id like to hear what the neutral rappers thought.

I just started watching tonight with 3. Need to go back and start from 1. This is a really well done doc, even if you're not a huge fan of the music.
