So who thinks Durst will get arrested this week following tmrw night's episode? According to Jarecki, we will know what happened by the end of part 6. I have a feeling Durst is prepared for what is about to happen and will have something up his sleeve.

Seeing as I haven't seen a big OT thread about it happening, I'm gonna say that he either dodges the new evidence or the police haven't yet seen the letter until last week

That was 2000(ish). Is there a statute of limitations of murder in California? Still, could be argued someone framed him after seeing his letter. Not sure what their motive would have been, but there doesn't doesn't seem to be any real forensic evidence placing him there. Not to mention dudes lawyers got him off after admitted to "killing--not "murdering" OL boy and hacking up his body with a saw and throwing it in the bay. Dude isn't "jinxed" at all. He's lucky as all frick.

The Galveston DA fricked up by only bringing the murder 1 charge. When self defense is raised by the defendant the prosecution bears the burden of demonstrating evidence sufficient to show the act wasn't self defense. As you saw, the lead detective admitted on the stand they had no evidence to prove Durst's killing of Black wasn't self defense, regardless of Durst chopping up the body later.

I've enjoyed this series more than I anticipated. Hopefully the finale is strong.

This series has been awesome. I can not wait for tonight's finale.

I remember the Galveston case because I grew up in Galveston county. I was in junior high at the time so my details of it were very fuzzy, I just remember my parents pissed that he got off.

Now that I'm older and watching this I do not understand how the hell he got off in Galveston. His lawyers are like the greatest lawyers ever to get someone off for that. I mean he chopped someone up and threw them in the bay, and argued it was self defense.

Glad to see he got arrested last night and I hope they finally convict this sociopath this time.

I think it had a lot more to do with the prosecution being completely incompetent than anything his million dollar lawyers did

I've really enjoyed this documentary. Robert is extremely fascinating, regardless if he is psychopath or not.

Personally though, I just don't see how they will have enough evidence to convict him of Susan's death. The letter is interesting, but they can't even put him with 6 hours of LA. How can you prove beyond a reasonable doubt when you can't even prove he was anywhere near the place of murder?

True.

The defense played the jury like a fiddle.

I can see that. To me however just the fact that he was coincidentally in California the day she got murdered is enough evidence to me. I guess that's why I'm not a lawyer though.

Couldn't the director of this show get charged with obstruction for not turning in the evidence immediately?

I think technically he could.

But I think since he got arrested last night, before tonight's episode aired of presenting the envelope to Durst, that maybe they handed over the envelope to police shortly after they interviewed him.

I think that's still enough for an obstruction charge though?

Hell I don't blame the director for wanting to present the envelope to durst him self first after how incompetent the police have been through everything.

Side note: does anyone else have a hunch the first detective in New York with his wife's case was paid off?

Sorry for rambling.

We have video of him literally locking it in a vault slam dunk there I would think

But they won't charge him if he helps him convict this guy. Amazing how he got more evidence than 3 mirder investigations could come up with over 50 years

Anyone involved with the first investigation was paid off. I refuse to believe that they were just that incompetent

I can not believe they arrested him last night!

I was just telling my husband about the miniseries and how he ought to catch up on it before the finale tonight.

I told him I hope tonight's episode ends with Durst being arrested.

I doubt they charge Jarecki with obstruction or anything - for all we know he was keeping LAPD in on everything and he was helping them by getting to Durst.

We all know his lawyers would never have allowed the cops to question him about the letters or anything at all but for some reason Durst trusted Jarecki and he was able to question Durst about things no one else could.

I wonder what he was doing in New Orleans?

He could have been after one of y'all for talking shite about him on this board!

He was trying to flee the country. He was going to take the first flight to Cuba that has been offered since 1958. U.S. recently opened relations back up with Cuba. He rented a hotel at the New Orleans Marriot under a fake name and had a lot of cash and fake documents.
