Harvard Beats Yale 29-29

Finally watched it and liked it a lot. It is a documentary with interviews of the players interspersed with footage from the game. Played in 1968, both teams were undefeated but Yale was heavily favored. The game is interesting but the interviews are more so for what they reveal about the people involved and the snapshot of our country. Tommy Lee Jones played offensive guard for Harvard (all the linemen interviewed are absurdly small). The Yale players formed the nucleus of the Doonesbury comic strip (BD = Brian Dowling who was a great QB). Anybody who is interested in the 60's, documentaries, and football will really like this movie. People who want special effects, explosions, and chase scenes should pass.

There are an additional 45 minutes or so of interviews available on the disc and I watched them after the movie was over so I guess I would disagree that it was too long.

I never saw it, but every time I see it on the program listing I think: "How the frick do you beat someone by tying them?"

The description on the channel guide says that the game "culminated in a controversial last-minute victory even though the official score remained tied." Which isn't exactly what went down. I wasn't familiar with the game before I saw this so I kept waiting for the "last-minute victory" which never occured. Obviously that didn't have any bearing on the quality of the actual documentary. But yeah I thought it was over long. IMO they didn't need to show what seemed like the entire game. I thought the interviews were good though. It was just a little too dry for me.

One of the best football comebacks to beat a ranked team I've ever seen. You could see the Yale Bench and Fans just wanting to get out of there with a win after thinking they were going to drum Harvard into the ground.
