They've always had a lot of indulgent "art film" sensibilities

Yup, my wife hasnt seen them all but watched enough to know what is going on. She said you have to be on acid to follow this show and enjoy it

I was going to be pissed if Abigail survived. Still not fully ok with will or Jack (if he is) surviving.

I do enjoy the "artsy" aspect of this series which says something because I dont normally enjoy things like this. The walking antlered corps thing was definitely where I was asking wtf. I also couldnt tell if Hannibal was there in the catacombs or if it is Will's imagination or even Will becoming Hannibal.

I just cant tell WTF is going on with the real/imagination/perceived reality/Whatever the hell they want to call it.

Did any of you think the actress who plays Abagail got work done while the show was on break? I thought she looked different/better in this episode than she ever has before.

I'll admit, when the stag started growing antlers and walking towards Will. I was saying "wtf". I looked at it as Will's rebirth and reintroduction into finding Hannibal.

Also, the beginning scene reminded me how gruesome the finale was.

Yeah. These first two episodes have been extremely indulgent imo. They need to find a balance.

The torso unfolding and evolving into the stag-man was a great, disturbing scene.

She looked better than I remember, hot even. Maybe an extra year did her good?

We're in a completely different environment from the past two seasons. Considering each season is thirteen episodes. I think it's acceptable for them to slowly unravel the two main characters of the show and easy us into the Florence environment.

I'm actually glad we haven't jumped into the "monster of the week" episodes just yet.

Can someone help me understand a little about the elk/moose and what it means? Does Will think of himself as this animal? Or is it Hannibal and either way what is the significance of a moose or whatever it is?

IMO, in Will's mind, the stag represents the evil that Hannibal is. Hannibal had an identical stag statue in his office and Will kept touching and looking at it the first time he ever went in the office. The stag eventually morphed into a wendigo when Will began to realize the Chesapeake Ripper was Hannibal. The wendigo is a mythological monster that represents psychosis and cannibalism (both strong themes in this show).

Also, the first Chesapeake Ripper crime scene Will was involved in on the show had a man impaled on a massive set of antlers similar to the stag's.

Sidenote, did anyone else catch the fact that the priest was able to see Abigail?

I did some googling last night cause I wasn't sure if that was the same Abigail. She looked very different. This article popped up on my search

it also pissed me off that they censored this.

Was fricking ridiculous.

I remember that and figured he just tied Hannibal to the stag (that's what it is!) in his dreams/visions but I wasn't sure if there was more of a meaning.

And that's something I had no clue about, so thanks and that may explain it

Remember that as well, so I wasn't sure again if these images of the stag are in his visions because of past experience or there was more meaning. I think your mythological explanation makes the most sense.

They need to get going on this season. Maybe next week if the preview is any indication.

While I'm not a big fan of formulaic TV, there's a reason why there's a formula. Formulas work.

I don't need a "monster of the week" every time, but this season...

It's extremely confusing. And extremely slow. And confusing.
