Has anyone seen it ?

I haven't but I will today. I really really want it to be good because Roberto Duran is my favorite boxer of all time.
Robert De Niro doing the full ESPN car wash to promote it is not a good sign.

I hope there's a good steak eating scene. Maybe a Rocky-esque montage of steaks, booze, and sexing to prepare for the fight.
Just realized there was a 30 for 30 that I somehow missed. May check that out before seeing the movie.

I know a guy that fought Roberto Duran. He is a little guy that used to work at a furniture factory and played guitar/sing solo at a local bar I frequented in Tupelo, MS. He ended up signing a record deal and has been the opening act for Sting, Toby Keith, etc.
I still see him occasionally at Walmart and think this little guy fought Roberto Duran and could kick my arse

I am having a hard time with the casting of Usher. Does he have any acting experience?

Didn't know he used to box. Gives new meaning to the great day to kick somebody's arse song.

OK. So that's kind of making the case against him.
But he definitely got the look down based on the previews. I have no clue how he'll do. I know I'll be seeing the movie because I'm a huge Duran fan.

Casual boxing fans don't appreciate Duran like they should, it's so unfortunate that the only thing he's remembered for is "No Mas".

It's probably not a coincidence that Sugar Ray is the first big boxing star I remember as a kid.
Aside from the no mas thing, he probably gets left out a lot because he was already in his 30's and peaked by the time of the huge PPV era. Pretty much everyone was forgotten for a few years with Tyson mania too.
But I think Jamohn and I talked about it a long time ago, it's just been a long time since casual sports fans really followed boxing. People don't know great welterweights of yore like they know great pitchers or quarterbacks.

This is true, and it's a shame.

I was hoping this was about Ronnie Garvin. I'm disappointed.
