I'm no fan of Vince Vaughn's acting (ahem... second season of True Detective), but you do realize he was playing a non-fictional character, right? He's not trying to be some fictional terrifying a-hole of a drill instructor who says some funny shite -- he was being a real person and based on the interviews of the real guy he seemed to nail the character.
