The game doesn't cost much on Steam. They have add-ons you get online. One of which is Game of thrones. But the game progresses quicker than a standard Civ game.

Civ 4 is much better than Civ 5. I have a game on Civ 5 I've been playing since January and I don't think I'm going to win. It takes a long time to play, unless you veg out on it.

He explained it better, than I did. If you have the game civ 4 (beyond the sword) it is free to download clash of kings. Or you can go to steam

The problem with the game is that only the Greyjoys & Stannis have a navy. So it is a land war, & you can also research new technologies.

By the time the Starks/Lannisters/Tullys/Tyrells/Freys/etc get a navy big enough to make safe passage for your troops. Stannis has machine guns up on Dragonstone. Also I checked it out last night and House Dorne is now on the scenario.

That's the bad part, the good part is the map is great with all of the terrains and cities available. Pretty much if it is on the map in the book it is on the game. Each house get a couple of generals to start the game. The generals are named from each House, Starks have GreatJohn Umber, Lannisters (Jamie & the Mountain)(Dorne- Red Viper & Areo Hotah), BlackFish Tully is in RiverRun. Loras Tyrell is sworn to Renly not House Tyrell.

2nd Sons-

Who was the 2nd son after Brandon?
Ned or Benjen?

According to Wikki Benjen is the younger brother of Ned. So that would make Ned 2nd I guess.

So who else are Second Sons? Is this right?

Starks- Ned & Bran
Lannisters- Imp & Tommen
Baratheon- Stannis
Tyrell- Garlan
Martell- The Red Viper
Clegane- The Hound
Targaryen- not sure what son Aemon would be?

Edmure Tully,Robert Arryn & Theon Greyjoy have no brothers that I know of.

Theon had two older brothers I believe who we're killed when Ned and Robert put down Balon Greyjoy's rebellion.

Bumping for tonight's episode and to hopefully bring some of the "how to read the books" discussion in here instead of in the non-reader thread.

In response to Cap Crunch's post in the non-reader thread:

quote:

I started reading the first and it was the exact same as the show, so it was kind of hard to get into. I've heard they get a little different as you get further into them. I might try to start reading the 3rd one over the summer

I would suggest reading them from the beginning even if you've watched the show. There's a ton of prophecies, foreshadowing, etc that hasn't been covered in the show that IMO greatly enhances the story. The first book is very close to the show but it starts to deviate some after that.

I would tell them to bring the discussion here, but then I'd be another reader posting in that thread, so I just let it go rather than intrude.

eta: and I agree, if someone starts reading they should start from the beginning. Even though the main events are the same in the first book, you can still gain from the various perspectives and added details in the book.

3rd.... Egg was 4th son of a 4th son ("the unlikely"), one behind Aemon.

I didn't read the 1st book, I read the 2nd&3rd right after watching season 1. Almost finished with Crows. Do I wish I would have read book 1, sometimes, but it can be a time factor.
The only thing that I feel I missed out on from the show that was in the book, was Ned's dream after fighting with Jamie. But I watched it on You Tube.

I thought it was a solid episode, thought it step up Rains of Castamere perfectly. Glad they explained the backstory.

Ok... So the head of the Sellswords tonight's nickname was "The Titan's Bastard"... Is it important to know who The Titan was?
