Misfits is another good British show, though it's not BBC.

Agreed on Foyles War
Upstairs Downstairs is what Downton Abbey copied off of.
My mom loves Doc Martin

Better than most shows on tv. Sherlock is amazing. Ripper street has the same feel, and is pretty damned good, and luther is phenomenal as well. I'd put these 3 above almost every other tv series out right now.

Fiancee' watches Dr. Who, she loves it. I tried copper but couldn't get into it. And Downton Abbey is amazing if you're a chick, and pretty good if you're a guy. I got a little bored with it, the first season, so i quit watching it. But occasionally i'll watch it with the fiancee.

Just the best one.

Plus the Mitchell and Webb Look (sketch comedy show by the same guys).

MI-5 (Spooks) is awesome except for the season before the final season.

As far as non-fiction programming is concerned - I totally hooked on Time Team.

Try to find Vexed. I know it's on 1channel. It's a mismatched partners cop show that has kind of a Moonlighting vibe to it. Lucy Punch is in the the first few eps (now on Ben & Kate). Miranda Raison (the hot little number that played Jo Portman on MI-5) picks up where Lucy left off.

ETA:

For straight sitcom - I like Vicar of Dibley.

Did he strictly mean BBC, or just English shows in general? Cause Peep Show and some of the others mentioned are not BBC.

I think he just meant British shows in general. I know Downton Abbey is on ITV.

Forgot about M15 (Spooks). Loved it! Absolutely hated what happened at the end of the season before the last. Loved the last scene of the last episode.

Jekyll. Y'all gotta watch this one. The ending is a bit of letdown, IMO.

Doc Martin - comedy
Wire in the Blood - drama
Survivors - drama
Primeval - adventure
Upstairs, Downstairs
A Touch of Frost...like a CBS show...
The Inbetweeners was good for a few episodes...got old for me, though.
If you can find HEX, the first season was good.

One of the funniest, coolest shows around. Very, very entertaining. Highly recommend.
