Getting rid of cable.

Trying to save some money. Currently have Hulu and Netflix. However the shows on Netflix are not as extensive as we were led to believe. We want to be able to watch shows like American idol, big bang theory....etc. what is the best streaming service for these shows? After we cancel the cable the shows won't be available online because you have to sign in on your cable email and prove you are paying for the service on each website. Can't figure out the best way to do this.

Not sure about streaming but if you want American Idol, Big Bang and other network shows you can always buy one of those HD antenna's. I have one and it works great for network television.

this is the dumbest shite ever, BTW. they are only serving to screw themselves out of advertising money.
you could always get a friend's login stuff. or you can get an HD antenna. I have the mohu leaf, and it works like a boss.

i wish i could get rid of cable, but just have too many people in the house.. it's just easier. the price is ridiculous tho. probably paying $150 a month on cable alone.

Unless it's some of the really high-quality shows from the last 10 years, most of my TV preferences are at least 25 years old (Twilight Zone, Cheers, Quantum Leap). I just buy up the DVDs and I don't have cable/satellite.
For sporting events, I steam online or go somewhere else.

I checked my zip and all I would get is: PBS, MHz, PBS Encore, V-Me, Telemundo

You need a long range antenna and mount it outside or your roof, towards New Orleans. You should be able to find one with a 60-100 mile radius for less than a 100 bucks.

If only they gave you free time to test them out

It's pretty simple to do these days.
As mentioned, get a good HD antenna and you'll get your network shows.
You have Hulu Plus and Netflix already.
If you want to add Amazon Prime, that might help a little (I got it mainly for free shipping, but has a few movies Netflix does not).
Get a Roku or Apple TV. I have Roku and it has a bunch of channels and some with free movies like Crackle.
You can also add Plex to your channel lineup and download torrents to your laptop and stream them through the Roku.
So far, you're only in maybe $150 buying the antenna and Roku/Apple. Your monthly fees are only $15-20 or so. You can get HBOGO and Netflix by just getting someone eles's passwords. In reality, you could pay for Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime, get passwords, and have a shite ton of choices

I am getting ready to do this too. I have Roku with Netflix and Amazon Prime. I will buy a Mohu Ultimate and a Tivo DVR because I hate commercials. I will miss AMC, ESPN and FX.

I just did this a month ago. Hd antenna for CBS, Hulu plus for all my abc, and I have an Apple TV. CBS has shows on their website for free a week behind if I miss anything on CBS. Nothing like saving 150 a month.

There is no such thing as an HD antenna all antennas receive HD Broadcast

This.
You can even make one with stuff you may have in your house already.
We made one and bring it to the games and use it when we tailgate.
Just need a 1 x 1/2" piece of wood, about 4 1/2 feet long, some cookie cooling racks, some screws and washers, some cut up coat hangers into 7" long pieces and that piece for the coax to screw into.
You can google it. Might save yourself some money. People always admire ours, not that it's anything fancy.
Like some MacGuyver stuff.
