“Furious 7? shot past the $800 million mark globally after less than two weeks in theaters. Its performance essentially insures that it will become the first film in the “Fast and Furious” franchise and the first Universal Pictures release in history to top $1 billion.

Action movies do better than other genres overseas. The language barrier isn't as big of a deal

If it had opened in Russia, China, and Japan on the same weekend as the rest of the world, it might have beat Harry Potter-Deathly Hallows Part 2 for the largest world wide opening weekend ever. Which is crazy. Kinda speaks to the draw that Paul held amongst fans. He wasnt the greatest actor, but he was likable in almost everything he played.

His movie "Hours" was surprisingly good. Very tense movie.

There was a thread a few weeks ago about movies that you think will hit a billion, and this one was a pretty easy call.

So much garbage made these days that no one watches.

Good for them. I am glad that people are being entertained. That is the point, afterall.

I don't care for these movies, but I am glad they are being made.

When someone posted that Furious would likely gross a billion in another thread, I scoffed. It was one of the worst movies I've seen - totally cliche and full of bad acting. I guess people like it, though.

I think you went in with the wrong expectations

What movie did you think you were going to see? It did exactly what anyone should have expected it to do.

I saw it for a second time last night on a whim (in IMAX this time) and still enjoyed the hell out of it. As long as you don't but some ridiculous expectations on it, it's a highly entertaining couple hours.

You answered your own question. Foreigners love these movies. Han is like the Asian Brad Pitt.

You went in despite 6 other movies being made the exact same way and expected something different?

With it making this much over 2 weeks, is it safe to say Star Wars 7 will exceed a billion its first weekend?
