Just finished watching this on Netflix. I vaguely remember this film getting into the Oscar Nomination conversation a few years ago. Did anyone else enjoy this film?
I know that Coogler took some liberties in explaining the events leading up to Oscar Grant's death. But overall, I thought it was a good film. Michael Jordan's a charming actor and he's come along way since his days on "The Wire".

It was a good watch but I wouldn't be phased if someone told me I could never see it again.

I thought Jordan did a good job and the movie was well-acted in general but I found the movie pretty boring.
I couldn't figure out the point to the movie. The guy was tragically shot in the back and that's what generated the notoriety that supposedly made this situation worthy of a movie adaptation but everything leading up to the last 10 minutes was just a made up cookie cutter story about your typical down-on-his-luck protagonist with a heart of gold. Just wasn't interesting to me.
It was like a crappy version Rocky, except instead of trading punches with Apollo at the end, dude got shot in the back. (Yes, I make this reference knowing that Jordan will be Apollo's grandson)

The ending with his daughter got to me. Really good movie, really good soundtrack.

All of this. After watching I felt my time would have been better served just reading a few articles about it and if I wanted pulling up some youtube footage of the incident. Everything leading up to the conclusion is pointless to say the least.
