Eight years after it aired, the finale of The Sopranos continues to be hotly debated. David Chase explains how he created the excruciating tension of the last scene. What he won't say is what happened at the end.

He's dead. End of story. Wouldn't have shot it the way he did if he wanted him to live. Don't know why he won't nut up and admit it. Maybe it's because of this new age of ambiguous endings being the cool thing

Even without the tension you have to think if this...Tony had the go ahead from New York to get rid of Phil and the situation results in Phil getting executed in front of grand kids and his head bring smushed by a tire. They couldn't let that stand.

You wouldn't want to do the same? It's not like he can ever top it. I would milk it until I died.

He's always been rumored to hate most of his audiences anyway. After getting criticism while Sopranos was on the air, he seemed combative when asked about fans saying the show didn't have enough kills or action. Why would he cave to those trlogdytes now, if he was truly ambivalent towards them?

Oh he is apparently. He says nothing particularly revealing in the interview. I read it this morning. I was gonna start a thread but realized there were no quotes of any value at all
