I'm a big fan of both, but preferred Fringe much more. What say you?

Fringe is more consistent, has a tighter story, Walter > Mulder, and is more compact. That actually works in its favor. But it's way more fantastical as well. Fringe is polished. Love it.

However, X-Files is a bit grundgy, more realistic, Mulder+Scully > The Fringe Team, and it's a better mythology.

I've watched both all the way through couple of times, so I'm a big fan. If forced to choose, I would say X-Files, which also has the benefit of being more groundbreaking, whereas Fringe is Abrams' attempt at Lost done right.

Fringe is a far easier story to get into, imo. I much preferred it. It was irresistible and kept me wanting to watch the next one. X-Files didn't do that for me. But I've only seen the first 5-6 episodes and then random episodes thereafter. So I'm not comparing apples to apples. Perhaps X-Files gets into a more linear story rather than the episodic nature it begins with. Like Supernatural.
