yeah this has been a terrible story, especially since Thor(the real one) Odinson is still walking around.
I guess just like bringing Gwen Stacey back, Marvel wanted to make sure their books characters line up with the movie stuff.

Lady Sif is the closest thing to a "female Thor" and that's how it should be.

I always thought Valkyrie was going to be worthy ....
I felt the "mask" Foster is wearing was kind of dumb, if she's worthy, who gives a frick what her identity is?

I actually don't have anything particularly against a female Thor (or more accurately a female who is worthy and gains the "power of Thor")
But it being Jane Foster is just a total lack of any imaginative storytelling. And the "using the hammer is killing her" thing is even more meh.
The problem with long term entertainment like comics is that they run out of new and fresh ideas. And of course that they fall onto their fair share of bad writers and editors over the years.

She's not...otherwise she wouldn't hide her identity. That being said this was just marvel pandering to SJW. Rather then give women their own cool super hero to build a mythos around we are going to have an "event" and pretend like it is forever, much like Captain America dying, Peter Parker revealing his id, or the recent death of Wolverine which will come back as soon as marvel sees their sales down on other mags.

I do. Not because it is a woman wielding the hammer - but because it is another person other than Thor. This is one of my several major complaints with the whole Thor character as it was established by Marvel years ago. They viewed it as a necessary achilles heel for their franchise (since most of their heroes and villains are traditionally made more interesting by at least one major weakness)... but I hate it all the same.
