I love the ED series, but this movie may be too much for me.

I do think it's hilarious that they kept the tree rape scene though.

you'll piss off a lot of horror nerds with that comment

the best explanation i've ever heard was that the beginning of 2 was a "recap" of the first movie and then continued the story

Let 'em be pissed. the only way that ED2 makes sense is if none of the characters in ED2 have any memory of the events of Evil Dead. It's not a straight up remake, but it has many of the same plot points and character beats. I'd call it a quasi-remake.

Also, Evil Dead is a straight horror film with a little bit of humor thrown in. But really, it's just terrifying if you go with the cheap production values. Evil Dead 2 is horror comedy. It's still scary, but it's going for laughs throughout. It's a far funnier film than ED. You finish watching Evil dead and feel exhausted, at the end of ED2, you feel like you've watching a scary Bugs Bunny cartoon.

I'm glad this remake is going back to the roots.

No, I don't have an issue with them and I certainly can appreciate what they do for the genre. It's just that I personally didn't find any of them to be that entertaining. I also know that I'm in the minority on that.

And the thing is, I find it weird, because I love horror films. So what's wrong with me? Why don't I like the ED films?

The original is one of my favorites, but I hate ED 2 and Army of Darkness.

I've heard Evil Dead II is the best of the series. Is this true?

Saw this awesome bit of news on the movie in an interview with the director:

quote:

How much CG is in the movie?

Fede Alvarez: We didn't do any CGI in the movie. There's no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There's a reason people use CGI it's cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone's arm disappear.

Depends on what you are looking for. ED 2 is more horror comedy along the lines of Shaun of the Dead. It's almost a straight remake of ED 1 with more comedy elements. Evil Dead is more straight up horror, with some small humor elements.

Army of Darkness is more straight up Action adventure comedy with some horror elements.

They are all entertaining as hell in their own ways. I can see any of them being the best depending on what you are in the mood for.
